Hi all,
I'm in the middle of converting an 02 curvy s to take a handlebar. I've had to give it to my garage to get a couple of bolts loose and do a couple of other bits. They've just called to let me know that the top yoke I have from a naked curvy is a different size to the top yoke from my s and won't fit. I didn't spot any mention of this when I looked into how to do the conversion and thought it would be a straight swap, take off the top yoke from my s and drop on a top yoke from a naked. Does anyone know about this and if there is a way to get around the problem? Would it need the lower yoke from a naked to work?
the N and S lower yoke has a different part number for a reason (offset). most folk get the top N yoke to fit the S bottom by slightly forcing it on. no doubt someone will be along telling you different.

Thanks for the reply. Could forcing it cause any issues like the forks bending at the top? Would the bottom yoke and stem from a naked fit straight in and be a better solution? Sorry for all the questions, I just need to get the bike back together before monday

Hold up sorry, just re read yours and you said lower yoke, not top yoke.

Bibio, on the Curvy, reason for the different part number is due to the N bottom yoke lock stopd being slightly different...it's slightly chamfered/step to reduce the turning circle on full lock.
My guess is, probably slightly bent forks or twisted bottom yoke.

What does 'different size's actually mean?
It should indeed be a straight swap.
i stand corrected :-)
i would go with 21quest's reason then.
if your needing the bike for monday then stick the S yoke back on.
do you also have the longer clutch and throttle cables for the N conversion?

21 quest think they said the forks in the top yoke sat wider than in the bottom by 12mm. I'll have a better look when I go and collect it (wheeling it home)
Bibio yes I have a clutch and throttle cable from an n, as well as new braided brake lines from hel. Old brakes are off at the moment so if I can get the new bar on before putting the new lines on that would be better.

Hello, provided it's 12mm difference on both sides(left and right forks), I'd say you do not have the right N top yoke.
Any chance of some pictures?

That looks like the top yoke off a Suzuki Bandit.
That's definitely not for an SV650....you just found the issue.
that looks like a bandit top yoke but i could be wrong

Ah, the part of the country where folks appear less miserable.
I have the correct top yoke. I'd PM you later...got finger fatigue at the minute from typing on the phone.

It's because we're usually drunk :D
Thank you but I've just nabbed the right one from eBay so think I'm sorted (assuming they are sending the right one this time)

You can't use the N throttle cable on the S housing - its completely different. You can use the clutch cable, but don't need to. Both cables can be rerouted perfectly well to give the extra length needed, as long as the new bars are not too high or wide. You will need to use longer brake hoses/hose. You will also need to cut the screen to clear the bars on full lock.
The N bottom yoke is slightly different, but you don't need to fit it. You will need to use thick washers (approx 4mm) on top of the yoke/under the nut, otherwise the nut will bottom out. The N bottom yoke has a shorter stem, I think due to the N top yoke being thinner overall. The S top yoke has a spacer cast into the bottom of it to make it thicker overall, I suspect to raise the S bars slightly.
I did find fitting the yoke to the forks was tighter than the one I took off, but I think that was due to manufacturing tolerances, and it did fit with a bit of effort.
You could drill the S top yoke, and fit risers, an ally plate glued underneath apparently works well.
The N yokes can be hard to come by, or overpriced. It took a while to find mine for £30, with the bottom yoke which I didn't use.
Doing the conversion was the best thing I ever did to my curvy S, it is really comfy now, well worth the effort and relatively small cost.

to my knowledge both N and S throttle switchgear housings on the curvy are exactly the same. the pointy has completely different housings. i also think there are slight differences between the naked cables depending on year.

Sorry, you're right, the N and S curvy throttle housings are the same.
The clutch cable is perfectly fine rerouted, the throttle could do with being longer, I might get myself an N cable one day.
