On this day in 1866 Three British tea clippers reached London within 2 hours of each other after a 16,000 mile race from China as there were big bonuses for the first ships home with the new season's tea.

Aha! Many thanks you guys. Another birthday another wrinkle. Tea clippers. Interesting ditty Mr G. Oddly enough, a female ancestor of mine married married into one of the great 'tea exporting' families in former Ceylon now Sri Lanka of course. George Steuart and Co. She married George. Steuart & co is still in existence and is now a nationalised affair being one of the biggest companies in that particular neck of the woods.
I think I'll pop the kettle on...
