View Full Version : Which insurer?
I'm about to insure my Daytona when my sv policy expires, I'm currently with Carole Nash with the DNA thingy. I've had pretty decent quotes back from MCE and Bennetts, circa £170 fully comp where as Carole Nash is £220.
I've heard CN are really good to deal with in the event of a claim, are they worth paying £50 more for their services?

I can only tell you that when I was CN and my old Honda was stolen it was all sorted and paid for in two to three weeks.I'm with Bennets now as it's cheap but upped my security big-time and keep my bike garaged as well.

I did a lot of review reading and there were negative posts on every insurer so I just hope I don't have to use mine and I'll not know until I have to make a claim.
I'm still on CN's mailing list and they now seem to have moved the Goalposts on Classic bike insurance to between 10 and 20 years and not their old just 20 year deal.

However I got caught out as the Classic insurance does not run up No Claims and after two years you lose any you had :(
Hence why I went with Bennets as it was nearly half the cost of CN at the time(April 1017)
When it came to renew my car the letter quote from Churchill was £50 more than their quote on the Comparison sites so when I rang them they dropped it to the Web Quote.
You gotta keep an eye on these Tricky Monkeys :smt077

Hastings - Haven't had to ring them yet though. Hope I don't.
£50 is a small price to pay to avoid MCE :)

You're not wrong. They are....Terrible would actually be too good a word.

I think that's made my decision on MCE, are Bennett as awkward as I've heard as well?

So far they have been fine for me.I did have to pay some more as I decided to increase my mileage use and told them I had fitted a slip-on just in case.Only time will tell if and when I have to make a claim.
As always I'll shop around when renewal time comes and if I can get a,"Classic" insurance deal with CN at a good price I'll go back to them.I'm hoping my SV650 will be the last bike I buy so the cheaper I can get it the better.
Don't forget Carole Nash includes breakdown cover as standard.

I use Startrescue for breakdown,
https://www.startrescue.co.uk/
It covers,"Me" in/on any vehicle. With a discount coupon I think it was £38 for the year.
My bike came with,"AlphaDot" and it only cost me £15 to transfer.

Bennets were fine when I had to use them, it was being TPTF that ****ed me over,
If you're fully comp, which you'd be a donut not to be then they'll be fine.
Hastings were just a lot cheaper for me this time round.

I'm with BeMoto. They weren't the absolute cheapest quote I got but from the reviews they had, I decided to go with them. Quote was still competitive and used the discount code from 44teeth to ultimately get the price down a bit.
Worth giving them a ring just to get a quote I reckon.
I would note, I've not had to use them yet (knock on wood). That's obviously the real test of how good they are!

I have just gone back to Bennetts after last years Hastings cockup and a saving of 30 quid.
I was with Bennetts 16 years ago and had a no fault claim. They wrote it off, which I agreed with. But their valuation was way out. It turned out they had not inspected the bike and when I queried how they got their valuations as it was well out of line with my Glass's. They even had the wrong bike. Eventually I got everything resolved, but at renewal I got zero NCD. I queried that, and got the operator to say, "I will check with the underwriter and phone you back". Fat chance. But true to her word, 30 mins later she phoned me. NCD restored and a discount for the inconvenience.
So last years hastings cockup. Auto renew in November as they were only about a fiver different from the lowest cost. Step forward to Jan last year and there is a letter from the DVLA telling me it is an offence to have a non insured vehicle. No problem, I had not cancelled the auto renew. Check on ASKMIB and no insurance. Phone Hastings. We cannot explain it. We confirm that you never cancelled but we didn't carry out the auto renew. We can insure you now. So I go ahead but ask. What would have happened if I had a claim? Oh we would have honored it as it was our fault you were not insured. Like hell you would. I know from when my son was prosecuted for no insurance on his company vehicle. It is the drivers responsibility to check there is insurance. BTW, he was convicted, but no points and £0 fine.
