View Full Version : Another AL7 seat thread

I love my AL7, for what it is and what it does, it is perfect for me - except for the seat. I had my seat rebuilt by Core seating in Lincoln and that made a vast improvement but it's far from being superbly comfortable.

Here's Holeshot's (Dale Walker) take on the issue:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bFFF2Kgy7M

He mentions that the stock seat is tricky to refit, I've not had any problems (not that I do it much) but his seat certainly looked easier.

I like his seat because he has made the seating area almost horizontal which is one of my gripes with the stock seat and to a lesser extent my mod'd seat. I'm constantly being pushed into the tank.

He had me convinced when he said his seat "looks bitchin' ".

I had checked on Corbin seats once before but they cost an exorbitant amount, £600 and up if I recall in the UK ($600 and up in US). If he sets the price at $450 he undercuts Corbin which is odd since Corbin make his seats.

PS on a side issue 84.5 and 83.7 mpg on last two tankfulls, I did 200 miles before the low fuel icon started to blink.

I can tell you why you find the seat uncomfortable.
Its your fuel consumption figures.

Because your bum is in the seat twice as long as it would be at 60mpg?

i use a tourtecs (ebay) air seat. its superb. being a short arzz i had to shave the seat down (K7) a good bit to make it fit but my bum has been numb free.

I find the AL7 seat comfortable enough.
Maybe its because I'm a bus driver and used to spending long periods sat on an uncomfortable seat.

I would agree that the AL7 seat has much scope for improvement, but I'm too much of a tightwad to spend any money on it.

When sat on an AL7 seat... if you're sat on your wallet, you need a better tailor because he's put your pockets in the wrong place...

i think the bloke that designed the seat likes to be tortured up the arz.

suzuki should stop "thinking" what is good and ask the public what they want and not just in Japan. they have a peach of and engine but spoil the potential to be a cracking market leading bike and not just on price.

Isn't there an optional seat with 5mm extra padding (height)?

Yes but its real fugly and ridiculously expensive.

That's a lot of beer tokens for an extra 5mm of foam and "easy split" fake stitching.

Yours is much better, proper handmade quality work, even if it does let water in. ;)

Love the seat much better than the OEM one.

For me, the tuck and roll seat is by far the best looking seat out there. There are probably more comfortable options but none I've see look right on the bike. I'm not a fan of the lighter colour to the rear of the tuck and roll seat but that's not a problem to take care of. The angle of this seat for me is right and makes the seat many times more comfortable than the stock seat and the extra few mill padding helps, too. The Corbins are undoubtledly more comfy for larger people. For me at 5'10" and 77 kilos the tuck and roll is plenty comfortable while still retaining the right dynamics for the bike. The Corbins remind me of those gel add on seats that people stick on racing bicycle saddles.

I have a comfort seat (I'd assumed it was official, maybe it isn't) that was on another AL7 at the dealer and I asked for it to be put on the one I was getting after a test ride on the stock one. It doesn't look like the one in your pictures though, it is more of a mesh look. Still uncomfortable. Still tricky to put the seat back on (I keep a disc lock under there so have to do it all the time).

Anyone tried retro fitting some of this stuff?

I think the main problem with the stock seat is its slope into the tank

Moving towards the tank has never been a problem for me, my riding breeks have anti-slip patches in strategic places.
If you look at the seat side on its a curved shape which also slopes up at the front.
Flat seats probably suit people with flat arses...?

Looks like the software only objects to the singular.

This is what I have. Looks like a custom cover from a place in Coventryhttp://www.cmseats.co.uk/ . I don't know if it is just the cover or they reshaped the seat too. It was on another bike at the dealer and I asked for it to be put on the one I was buying. Looks nice, but it is not as comfortable as the Sargent seat I had on my old K5.

Can't help thinking that it looks to fit ... Kim Kardashian. Now if that's the case, two relief dents in the tank will also be required?!

Zombie - it looks a bit more sculpted than stock. If you have an image hosting account like yours you can place images in your post by putting at the front and at the back of the address of the image.

Cheers. Couldn't get that to work, but found a different site.
