Hi All!

I recently bought a 2008 SV650, battery was dead when I went to buy it but I jumped it started up, revved it a bit. It probably ran for about 10-15 minutes then I took it up the street and back but in the way back 50ft away it shut off. I realized that the fuel pump never made a priming noise and the fuel cap is stuck but bought it anyways.

I’ve thought about cleaning it with carb cleaner but what is some other information that could be helpful as I try to get this thing running. As for the fuel cap I’m going to open it from the inside because it the key with wd40 won’t bust it loose.

Thanks in advance!

you need a new battery. no not charged up... a new battery.

push the straw of the wd-40 past the weather seal on the key hole and give it a good blast then let the wd-40 penetrate for a day (keep adding a little more wd-40 during the day) then push down on the top of the cap then turn the key. be gentle as the keys are brittle.

I tried that for gas cap, it hasn’t worked I get about an 1/8 of a turn. I’ve soaked it several times with wd-40 from the key to the inside from where the fuel pump is. Thinking about giving up on it and just looking for a new cap and break this one

UPDATE: I finally got the gas cap off, I had to get the drill out and use my trusty screwdriver.

Next I must get the surface rust out of the tank, get the fuel pump back together and wait for my new keyless gas cap to arrive.
