View Full Version : K1 Battery 99-02 & RR
In need of a new battery and i have read that YTX12-BS is a good choice but the bike in question was an 05 SV650, the model i have is an 2001 SV 650.
Will this be suitable for a 2001 K1 model?
From site suggestions they recommend YT12A-BS which I believe is a shorter version of the above with some other spec differences.
Also, has anyone got a link to a MOSFET RR for a 2001 K1? struggling to find one.

My 1999 Curvy came with a Dynavolt Sealed gel Battery which is over 3 years old and no problemss,

When it goes I like and have used MotoBatt full AGM batteries and have one in my kitchen from and old Motorcycle that is over 6 years old and still fully functional.
I will most likely go for a Motobatt AGM when the one on my SV goes as they are Fire-And-Forget and come fully charged and sealed,

HTH :)
Thanks for the info!
What are your thoughts on Yuasa? I have been told these are also solid brand for batteries.
FYI - found a mosfet RR on eBay sold by M&P £60 manufactured by electrosport

Yuasa are a good brand but on a recent discussion I didn't like them not because of their quality but they supply a separate battery acid pack even with,"Their" version of an AGM Battery.I dislike the old technology and prefer fully sealed,"Fire-And-Forget"Gel or AGM batteries having laid bikes down a couple of times over the years the Lead/Acid type batteries almost always get killed if not straight away not shortly after and old style lead acid batteries are a thing of the past IMHO.Too much maintenance and potential danger.
MY 10 Penn'th.
PS
Whatever R/R you chose clean all the corrosion out of the main connectors to it with a small screwdriver with a bit of 500 grit/wet and dry paper wrapped round the end and scrape off carefully. This is the area that destroys them.My 1999 Curvy still has the OEM standard one but I service all my electrical connections every two years when I change my Coolant and Brake fluid.I use a combination of Contact cleaner and ACF50 to protect them,

regarding an R/R, this is worth a read by a guy called D'ecosse:

Yes, it's a Triumph site but they have had more than their fair share of R/R problems. There's lots of good info on connectors, wire gauges, fuses. He suggests the FH012aa as a good R/R for most bikes including the SV. If you look on ebay, you'll find Chinese knockoffs at £15 and up. I've never tried one but at that price you could afford a spare :)
+10
I'd give one of those a go :)
And whose to say all the,"Branded" ones aren't made in China?
Most things electrical are these days ;-)
