Looks like my Samsung S6 is on the way out. I'm not moaning I bought it second hand from an honest friend for £100 back in 2015 so I've had my monies work. Thanks in advance.

I've got the Honor 7X. Seems to do the job. It's made by Huawai. Seems quick & the camera is brilliant

I went with a Chinese brand off Amazon (have prime so deliveries/returns are a doddle) and haven't had any issues in 6 months.

I got a "Umidigi S2 Lite" for £120 and it's great, battery lasts 2 days easy (5000mah) and it's not filled with loads of bloatware, just vanilla Android 7, 32gb of memory in phone, camera is good enough...can't complain.

Today there's probably newer options like this worth considering, maybe have a look at recent youtube reviews on cheap Chinese phones? Brands like Umidigi, Cubot, Xiaomi etc are worth a look. Just make sure that it is available through Amazon or similar where you know returns are not an issue (in case you get a dud) and you've got a winner.

I've got a Sony XA1 - I paid £150.00 for it a fair while ago. Pretty sure you can get it cheaper now.
It's alright.

£130.00 Argos.

I'm just about to replace mine, and Kai is right, have a look at some of the Chinese ones.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 gets some good reviews and is about £114

I was looking at this until Kai posted up his option!

If you want a known brand, I was also looking at a Samsung J6, my wife and daughter have the J5, seems well built

The Honor 9 also gets good reviews

I'm not going for anything below 32gb storage, I'd prefer 64GB even with add on storage, as these days 16gb isn't enough

I have a J5 on PAYG and have had problems after software updates. It gets very slow. According to my local Vodaphone shop, the updates assume that the phone is on contract and changes settings accordingly. It became unusable and it took the Vodaphone technician 10 minutes to make it usable again.

Got the Huawei p8 from 2017. Had it almost a year with no problems.
Look at black Friday on amazon (hate myself for saying that)

I got a Samsung J3 for £129 from Carphone Warehouse and it does everything I want from a phone. Worth talking to the staff - well the ones in Wrexham at least - as they were able to steer me to the best deal. (For me that was buy a £10 PAYG SIM and £50 off the phone).

Tbh the wileyfox's are the worst. The work terminal is 8 months old and the battery is already starting to fail.
