View Full Version : Hunstable Electric Turbine
A "new" electric motor which can misalign its magnetic fields which is, apparently, a good thing (who knew?):

Yes field weakening increases the speed of rotation but lowers the torque available, when we did motors at college ( too many years ago to think about )

We were taught that in a series wound motor that as the load falls the current falls but flux falls faster in the field winding ( stator ) and the speed increases until it spins itself into oblivion... series wound motors had advantages but most are shunt ( parallel ) wound or smaller ones permanent magnet.

If you watch the video of the Hunstable motor they replace the normal huge car battery with a battery that is about 90% smaller - they only claim 10% extra range
so bit of a liberty to replace a 90Kw/h battery with two alkaline 'D' cells....
