Planning a road trip

OMO my wife and I are planning a ride next year from Ipswich to Edinburgh via a few choice stop offs such as York and Alnwick Castle and coming back down via the Lake District and Lyme House (Pride and Prejudice) and back to Ipswich. Its only a loose route at the moment but any suggestions as to where to find bike friendly camp sites and hotels? As I say, things are loose and need advice.
