View Full Version : Is there a low mounted GP/ stumpy exhaust for curvy SV?

I have been searching all over the place and have a seen a few fuzzy pictures but are there any good/ affordable small silences that can mount near the swing arm on the curvy SV. Sorry if there is a post on this but I could not see one.

Companies like Black Widow, Delkevic, SP Engineering and others all do short (200mm) stumpy cans with GP-style exits. There are quite a few cheap Chinese exhausts too which can easily be mated with the standard curvy headers, using a link pipe.

Thanks Craig,

Do you have to trim the link pipe to suit? All the ones I have seen when I try searching seem to hang low down off of the rear peg hanger?

Thanks Riff,

That looks good. Is there any way it could have gone lower and less far back or would it start getting in the way of your leg?

Cheers,

David

I never thought about that.I just wanted it to replace the Stock one.I must be possible but will need a bit of rethinking/tweaking and most likely need the longer bracket on the Slip-on making and the small connecting pipe turned to a different angle or even a different piece.

It might be best to do as I've done and then address changing it after-the-fact as it will give you an idea of what could be done. All the bits were pretty cheap off eBay so re-modifying shouldn't be hard :)

Having it lower and more towards the first peg would surely mean the silencer wouldn't be supported?
You'd need to find another supporting bracket to hold the can. Which might prove to be a bit more problematic than the original support.

I'm sure it can be fabricated though.

It's a conundrum isn't it?! which is why I like to think about this stuff before doing anything. Maybe triangulate off of the front peg fitting?

Yeah if it can hold a persons weight I am sure you can attach a Can link to it.

Food for thought. Just need to get executive approval on my project (my wife ;-)) and then I can get to it. I suppose one of those really stubby little pipes (looks more like an exhaust trim than a can) would be too loud?

Smaller the can louder it will be yes. Less material and baffle to absorb the sound.
I've never bothered as I'm keeping the SV400 as standard as possible. But I know the OEM kit is very heavy compared to aftermarket solutions.

Short cans like that mess up the power delivery, don't do it

I agree Chris. A weight saving is always useful though so the small stubby looks like a good option. I could balance the weight loss by doing the different chain and sprocket option on the other side... ;-)

If it's any help I have an SP Engineering stainless GP silencer on my curvy, it's mounted in the standard position (off the passenger peg) but the sound with baffle in is really nice 'n' crisp, and with baffle out ... absolutely awesome! Really barks, especially when winding it up.
Check out their site, they've got plenty of styles to choose from. The problem of it fitting low will only be down to the angle of the link pipe and then getting creative with fabricating a suitable hanger. Can't be more helpful than that tbh but as said .... i can recommend the SP silencer.
Hope you find a solution.

Thanks Gadget,

Will take a look.

Still haven’t worked out how to attach pictures but have a look at Suzuki SV650 Caballo de Hierro on bike sheds classifieds. Bloody gorgeous and has what looks like an SP slip on.

That has been an inspiration; actually I'll ask them as they are very happy to chat about their builds.

You can't "attach" using the forums' own paperclip, you have to link to an image which usually, but not always, means they are stored on an image hosting site.

As an example, here's a link to a picture of a Kawasaki H1A:
https://classic-motorbikes.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/kawasaki_h1.jpg

if I put at the front of the link and at the back (which means typing the square brackets as well as the letters), I get this:

I tried it with the bike shed but they don't allow linking so you'd have to do a snip and store it on your image hosting site, like this:

Not my cup of tea, especially for £8700 but each to his own.

30 quid chinese jobby on mine...!

Ran it for 2 years now, without a supporting bracket, no issues. Sounds decent too.

Used to run a Pro Race Exhaust Systems gp can for awhile, had to fit a baffle to it as was WAY too loud without it.

Thanks SVB,

Both look good, especially the latter. I like the way you have got that headlight tucked right in, I shall take a look on your build thread and see how you did that. What gauges are you using?

Cheers,

David

That's pretty much the same as mine but I did use the bracket.I too did not have to re-jet and it has had no effect on performance/Mileage except perhaps a little improvement by less weight :smt035

Suppose at that angle its weight is almost supported anyway and the down tubes are quite substantial.
I men if it falls off I guess its just more weight reduction right?

£30 sounds like a bargain to me. I probably cannot spell Ackroponic or whatever it is so I assume this one cannot either?!
