Pretty sure I've been fleeced. Something I'm meant to be collecting tomorrow. Deposit paid. Ebay listing has disappeared. Can't reply to messages to sender as eBay says user invalid. Phone number I spoke to him on the other day is going to answerphone and no reply to text messages. What's the bets the address I visit tomorrow is not him.
Feeling pretty sick.

So, I was the 4th person to try and collect from an address where a guy who knows nothing about any of it lives. He does have info of the "other" buyers too, including a scan of a driving license with the sellers name but the spoof address on it. So he has fake ID made up and a very legit looking history that in hindsight has lots of holes in it. Hindsight is a great thing though.
eBay fraud team are the biggest waste of time. A classified is not counted as being part of eBay apparently so it's nothing to do with them. No help at all. Attempts to trace the guy through his recent purchases and what address they went to? No chance. He's deleted his account so they won't hold details about him now.
I've left it with HSBC fraud team. They say allow 15 days and they'll try and negotiate with the recieving bank. The receiving bank are under no obligation to help though apparently unless there is a court order involved.
Now to spend another hour or two on hold to Action Fraud / Police.

Yep. The thought of how hard I've had to work the last year to try and bring debts down and now someone does this. Although I'm almost not as annoyed losing the money as I am knowing there is someone sitting somewhere with four peoples money benefitting from making the world a crapper place. My faith in people has plummeted quite dramatically in the last 24 hours.
Currently working at home doing more wheel building, trying not to think how many I need to do just to be back in the same situation I was a couple of days ago. It's feeling a bit pointless.

That's really crap Adam. There are some vile scumbags out there, with absolutely no morals about them at all. Hope the bank does the decent thing and sorts it out for you.
that is indeed carp Adam. i thought everyone knew that you dont pay a deposit or indeed anything till you see the vehicle and then its cash in hand.
at least my purchase is only £80 so no biggie if i loose it and besides paypal might refund me.... maybe.... doubt it.

I don't know if this is relevant in your case, but HSBC are signed up to it:

No response from Action Fraud / Police so far. HSBC have been in touch and credited me 50 percent of the loss saying they realise they should do more to protect people and they are still trying to negotiate with the receiving bank.
That kind of lightens the load a bit getting at least half back, but still not great.
