Long handled loppers for tree pruning - anvil or by-pass?

I have anvil type, and they work great for pretty chunky branches. I think they're better if you need to use a lot of force, otherwise there's a danger of the two halves twisting, not that I have any like that.

I was starting to come to the same conclusion. I think I will probably go for the by-pass type though and get a decent pruning saw for anything too thick for the loppers.

I have extending handle loppers that are by-pass and yes, you have to be careful about thicker stems. Also got some old anvil loppers that have done me very well for many years that are very sturdy and reliable.

I may just get the bypass ones for now and buy some anvil type later.

The only thing I've got to do the job is bolt croppers. The overgrown bushes in our garden don't know what they're in for tomorrow! : )
