Today's little question ...
The bike came to me with bobbins already fitted and they are something ive never had anything to do with, my 125 and my ER both had centre stands.
So, could someone kindly recommend a reasonably (not necessarily the cheapest) priced paddock stand
Thanks

I got this one https://www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/warrior-rear-paddock-stand-and-bobbin-hook-combo-ubrpdstand-hookkit-e-akn/
They had an offer last year with the headstock stand as well for £60 but that doesn't seem to be available anymore was really good deal.
Had a cheap rear stand a relative for me for my 40th before and that one is so much easier to get the bike up on, especially on your own [emoji106]

Abba - will last a lifetime and lifts without loading the swingarm enabling maintenance on rear suspension and swingarm bearings etc. Relatively easy to raise front end too if you need to work at that end.

Abba stands are good but for me they are a bit much for just basic chain maintenance etc
I've got one like this. It is more stable than my old tube style one, has smooth rolling wheels and once you set the width of the hooks it stays in that position.

ABBA with swingarm removal bobbins. i keep the bobbins on the bike permanently. i can have my bike up on the stand within a 1 min and no fear of dropping it. i hated doing the paddock stand shuffle.

Abba stand with front lift kit.......... get both wheels off the ground at same time, and leaves the actual wheel areas free of 'stand paraphernalia' and stable also easy to use - one thing does everything. They don't include the bobbin to screw into rear swing arm for lift strap with lift kit though**, has to be ordered separately ( I just used an M8 allen bolt - works for me ).
** Their excuse was 'Oh- we didn't realise the AL7 had a place for mounting the bobbin --- but they wanted extra money before they would ship the bobbin, so did without it.

Many thanks for your replies gents.
The abba strand does look like a handy piece of kit but ive got to agree with Darren, it's probably a bit pricey for the occasional user.
I'll give myself a couple of days to think about it but I'm learning towards the one Darren linked

All I can say is if you are going to work on bikes look on an ABBA stand as a long term investment, you can get basic stand and get attachments to suit different bikes and different purposes - as Bibio said can even get kit to allow swing arm to be removed, and with front lift kit can take forks off. My AL7 and many newer bikes don't get a centre stand anymore, and to buy and fit an aftermarket one costs arm and leg - if you can get one.
My next big investment is likely to be the skylift but that's because I want to do suspension linkage and swing arm bearings as well as not having to bend down all the time but when budget permits.

I got by with an cheap paddock stand and hydraulic jack for years and years, then someone gave me an abba stand - and they are amazing. However I do find it too much of a pain in the ass to get out for little jobs.

I don't know if Harris still do paddock stands, but I've got one and it's way better than the Micron ones, also the ones where the hooks just dangle are a pain.
Here they are, mine's the first one on the list:

Good choice, once you have the basic stand you can get quite a few different kits for it....
I do find it a pain that most bikes do not come with centre stand any more, but by the time you have fitted a CAT under the bike not much room for anything else, and of course a centre stand adds to kerb weight of bike- which makers do not like ( although it is very low down weight ).

I'll add the moto glide and the swing arm removal kit at some point

The abba stand arrived today so I'm just having a play and if I'm honest, I can see why they're worth paying a bit extra for [emoji106]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200512/78775b40256a90c1cfda6338cb00a58d.jpg

Nice one, the stand does make it easy to lift the bike up. I have marked the place on the lower crossbar where the sliding vertical ( on side opposite the lift handle ) sits, a black permanent marker pen line each side of the sliding square tube you can just see peeping from behind rear tyre. It makes it easier to set up when you put it onto bike next time. Don't be too aggressive tightening the screwed bit that goes into swingarm too much as it tries to bend the uprights and can cause weld in corner of uprights to crack - one member on here ( Think it was AdamEf ) got his mate to weld a couple of gussets in because the welds cracked.
I have put a couple of brackets on garage wall to hang stand on - nothing fancy just something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/ST7004B-Multipurpose-Garage-Storage-Hooks/dp/B006ZBFLNO/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=wall+brackets&qid=1589301204&sr=8-5
Can slip some of the cheap foam pipe insulation over the horizontal bar on bracket to stop the paint on stand getting chipped or the stand sliding.

Marking it up was mentioned on one of the reviews I watched before purchase. I went round with the permanent marker before I put it away, but thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a look at the hangers [emoji106]

Two cents.
I used insulation tape to hold the mounting adapters into the cups.
Once I got distracted by my kids as I was finishing up working on the bike, I failed to notice until I next needed to use the stand that the offside adapter must have stayed in the bike.
Alas it is road fodder somewhere.
I made another at work and have had them taped in ever since - this was a few years ago now.
As mentioned - you barely have to tighten the screw when fitting - shes not going to fall out.
Also mark up where the rear lift needs to be if you haven't already.
I also have the tyre fitting kit too.

I'll sort that next time it's out. Thanks for the tip [emoji106]
