Putting aside some of his personal claims, his companies are advancing technology the way the US used to do before they lost their belief in science.

*Elon tweeted for people to take the red pill (he thinks people are worrying too much over Covid 19).

An 'unsung' genius of the EV sector is Mate Rimac. He works with, and shares the EV technology with all the big car firms, who also now are buying large shares in the company too (Hyundai being the latest investor).

An old interview, but gives you some background on him

If you've not seen it, the video using rice to visualise his wealth is astounding:

Interesting point of view on Teapot One's recent podcast with Alec from English Electric Motor Co about Elon Musk being important for getting ideas about electric vehicles normalised and into the public conciousness... paving the way for smaller people to not be laughed at when they try it. Previously whenever you mentioned electric vehicles the Sinclair C5 was usually mentioned along with a lot of laughing. Now it's being accepted.
Can't say I like him but I'd agree that he's done a lot to enable progress.

The C5 was so far ahead of its time, people just couldn't understand the vision. Tesla was at the right time, but more importantly pitched it as a luxury, not cheap transport.

i have seen a Tesla car at Dunnet Head in Scotland. spoke to the owner and he says he gets 250-280miles from a charge but he also said that the car was a GT.

if you dont know where dunnet head is then its just outside JOG.
