Hi guys. I have been trying to raise the rear end off the ground to swap my shock out but it feels unsafe. I have put a rear paddock stand on and tried jacking from under the engine but the front lifts off and it wobbles. My aim was to have the back weight just slightly off the paddock stand so if it moves it will be supported but I’ve nothing to get the front end stable with. I have a front stand that lifts from a hole in the lower yoke, has anyone done this before? I don’t have any car stands/supports for turning the pegs over and stabilising it that way

Do you have an A-frame ladder? I use straps to eyelets I put in my joists in the garage. If not invest in jack stands. They are cheap.

I'm a pinch I changed a shock on the side stand with a friend's help. Not recommended...

Two 3 x2 lengths between garage joist and floor then lift the bike up between them- then another piece of 3 x2 between the uprights forming a H. Use straps/ rope to secure bike back end to cross piece. It will not move then.

If you turn the footpegs upside down, you can put jack stands underneath.

I’ll pick up some jack stands in the morning. Eyelets are a good idea too, do they screw directly into the beam?

ABBA stand with front lift and swingarm removal bobbins was the best money I ever spent on motorbikes.... I just leave swingarm removal bobbins in footrest hangers now and use them instead of taking covers off to get to swingarm pivot points for ABBA adaptors that were supplied with stand....

I would love an abba stand. I’ll get definitely get one some day. The bolts aren’t for coming out in the dogbone, with all the hassle of seized bolts etc I had with getting the forks and mudguard off I’m going to give this one to the garage. It’s the last job on the list for this year. Will take her for a spin today instead

ABBA stand makes safely working on the bike so easy.. and the basic stand will transfer to other bikes simply by buying swing arm pivot adaptors, but IMHO it is more cost effective to buy the 'swing arm removal bobbins', which unlike the adaptors that fit into end of swing arm pivot the bobbins are pretty universal to a lot of bikes as they use M8 bolts to attach to footrest hangars, and can be left on the bike for quick and easy lifting without removing any covers.

The ABBA stand with front lift kit. You get both wheels off the floor at the same time, safe and solid.
They might be pricey but I think it was well worth the money.
I use mine all the time, even when the bike is getting a clean [emoji106]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200816/d6ee63156072f8fe03056e07d4ec8093.jpg

Attached PDF showing ABBA rear swingarm removal bobbins in footrest hanger - longer bolts supplied with bobbins. The plastic cover to the left has to be removed to attach ABBA to swingarm pivot, but with the bobbins I can leave them on and don't have to remove anything to attach ABBA stand. Bobbins will fit many bikes as most use an M8 bolt to attach footrest hanger to frame. The bobbins just fit into the normal end recesses on ABBA ( they replace the normal swing arm adaptor pieces which are specific to every bike ).

The other photo on page is the ABBA hanging quietly in garage on a couple of cheap brackets with pipe insulation on them. Use the rear lift strap to hold bits together and a plastic sweet jar to hold the other bits.

I’ll look unto the swing arm removal bobbins. I’d love an abba stand but if the bobbins are good then that’s a cheaper option

You need ABBA stand and the swing arm removal bobbins ( you buy the bobbins from ABBA for about £20 ) because the ABBA stand uses the bobbins to lift the bike, the stand normally fits into the end of swing arm pivots using bike specific adaptors in the ends of the stands arms, and obviously that stops your access to swing arm, the bobbins mean to can access and work on the swing arm pivots.. When I said bobbins are a cheaper option that was because the ABBA adaptors that fit into the end of the swing arm pivot are 'bike specific' and won't fit other make or models, but the swing arm removal bobbins will fit on any bike that uses M8 bolts to mount footrest hangers ( ie probably 90% of bikes on the planet ) - just remove one of the existing footrest hanger bolts and replace it with bobbin and longer bolts supplied by ABBA.

ABBA supply a set of adaptors to suit whatever bike you specify when you buy the stand, the basic 'sportsbike' stand remains a standard item - with the swing arm removal bobbins that you buy as an 'accessory' for the basic stand the standard bobbins will fit plenty of bikes and interface with the basic standard ABBA stand.
