Last night I was watching a documentary on the making of the Bat out of Hell album since I'm a fan of Meatloaf's music. Jim Steinman, who wrote the songs, was explaining that on the title track he kept asking for motorbike sounds but Todd Rundgren (the producer) kept ignoring him.

You can plainly hear the bike sounds on the first track - only it's not a bike. Rundgren was exasperated with Steinman's persistence and asked him: "You really want 'bike sounds?". When Steinman nodded Rundgren picked up a guitar and (allegedly) in one take produced the required noise.

You can hear the bike/guitar at 4min41 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QGMCSCFoKA

Incidentally, Bat out of Hell spent 522 weeks in the UK album charts (upto June 2019)

Was that a repeat by any chance? I recall watching something that is certainly similar if not the same programme a few years ago on a Sky channel. Part of a series of classic albums with all sorts of inputs from engineers and producers as well as the artists. Fascinating programmes. The one about Black Sabbath's Paranoid sticks in my mind but I recall the amazing piano opening from BooH, as when isolated from the rest of the inputs it is truly impressive.

it may well have been, I only have freeview and Sky introduced a new channel on there a couple of months ago.

I happily dumped Sky a few years ago so that shows how long it's been since I saw that programme, if it was the same one :)
