View Full Version : Stock indicators flashing fast

Sorry I know its another indicator post, I've read a lot about aftermarket LED indicators flashing fast but nothing specific to my problem.
So I recently bought a SV650 and the indicators are flashing way too fast (about 200 blinks per minute). They're stock indicators.
It came with a aftermarket LED halo headlight installed so I suspect this is what's causing the problem.
My question is what can I do to fix the fast flashing? I guess an LED indicator relay won't work because they're not LED indicators.
I'm thinking I'm going to have to install resistors to the headlight? (Haven't actually checked if there are any installed yet). If so do I have to do one to every bulb? (Halo ring/dip/full) or is there one I can add that will affect all bulbs.
Thanks in advance.

Are all your indicator bulbs working? If so check the indicator relay as that's what controls the flashing rate.

Is this with the lights off? If it is I cannot see how the headlight could cause it. Have you removed the headlight? That would eliminate it.
Got to say M/bikes with an ECU I have no knowledge of. What model/year is the bike.

Also the hazards flash at the same rate as when I use the indicators.

I can't turn the head light off as there's no switch, the headlight turns on with the ignition. It's a SV650 K3, 2004 model. Yeah maybe I'll try unplug the headlight see if that works.

You might want to check that you have the correct wattage bulbs fitted if the bike is new to you. 12V 21W. Is the flasher relay standard too?

Of course you can use an LED relay with bulbs, the difference between a 'thermal' relay ( filament bulb type ) and an electronic ( LED ) one is that with the thermal one the flash rate is solely dependent on correct load of 2 x 21watt bulbs = about 3.5 amps ) - with the LED ( electronic time base ) the flash rate is set by internal electronics and is independent of load. Links to Ebay and the like 7 pin Suzuki LED relays on forum in other indicator threads.
Most LED relays will support about 100watts.
The LED headlight is a red herring, I cannot see any way the LED will affect flasher rate, some LED's do emit RH interference ( which can affect radios and stuff ) but could not affect flasher rate.

You can even use combinations of LED and conventional bulbs with an LED relay, so mix and match front LED with rear filament bulbs etc.....
dont those electronic LED relays remove the bulb fail fast flash?

They do because they make flash rate independent of the load, but LED rarely fail -

The LED relay fixed the problem, took the opportunity to replace the indicators with some LED ones too as I installed the LED relay. Thanks for all the replies!!
