I use an Esso station because it's convenient. I notice that the pumps now say E10, I mention it to the attendant

Me: when did you switch to E10?
Att: we haven't, we've just put the stickers on.
Me: so when are you switching?
Att: Dunno, soon.
Me: Is it September?
Att: maybe...

(It is September)

I've noticed the stickers in a few places too. I should be OK as my oldest vehicle is 2015 but it's going to be a pain for a lot of people.

It's a bit like the end of leaded petrol - we coped with that in the end so hopefully owners of classics will find a way.

dont know why people are getting their knickers in a twist about this. we already use E5 adding an extra 5% will do no harm that has not already been done. you might get a little less mpg. unless you drive/ride a classic vehicle then nothing to worry about.

no knickers were twisted in this post, it was merely that the pumps said E10 when it was actually E5 and the lady behind the desk confirmed she didn't know when E10 was coming.

So is E5 now going to the the price that Premium has been in the past?

yes, "Super" (97 octane) will be E5. "Regular" 95 octane will be E10 from September.

Super unleaded is already E5, and it will continue as such and be readily available at all pumps... so .. business as usual. As I understand it .. using E10 will make the early (carb sv's) run a little lean which it already does anyway so using super E5 should keep it in the 'ball park' combustion wise, the neg side is that using E10 may have adverse effects with certain rubber lines/ gaskets etc.
IIRC.. Viton needles are available for the carby sv's which can put up with this kind of fuel, hopefully there might be other vulnerable carby parts available too.

Super unleaded is already E5

Except Esso. https://www.esso.co.uk/en-gb/fuels/petrol

from the link:

"Although our pumps have E5 labels on them, our Synergy Supreme+ 99 is actually ethanol free"
