I've succumbed and bought a smartphone and I'm baffled by a few things but here's the current problem.

When writing a gmail on my laptop (pre-phone), to insert an image, I'd click on "select files from your device", navigate to the image and insert. No problem.

After taking a couple of pics with my (android) phone, the laptop now only shows those pictures (from google photos) and I don't see a way to allow me to get back to: "select files from your device".

I can add files from my laptop as an attachment but not inserted into the body of the email. How do I get that option back?

Look for the,"Share" icon. This is taken from a help post on another forum I post on,

Even most Android Gallery apps have the,"Share" feature which you can use with the photos on your phone. Just tap on a photo and choose how you want to send it or create a link and text the link. Also Google Photos can be installed on Apple Iphones as well **

You will need a Google account. If you don't have one it's free,

Then Install the free Google photos app,

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.photos&hl=en_GB

Then preferably using a WiFi connection as videos use a lot of data Open the Google photos app and click and if it asks you to switch on backup just say yes and choose the option you want.

Then click on the 3 bars top left and scroll down to Settings > Backup and sync and click on that and enable the Backup&Sync and then make sure the little buttons for pictures and videos are enabled.

Now you have done this your photos and videos will not only be kept on the phone but also here,

https://photos.google.com

You can now click on any photo in the app or the Web-page and then click on the share icon which looks like this,

and choose,"Create a link" and just send that link or one of the other options via Text or Email etc.

The above may sound a little complicated but it's not really and once you are setup you can easily send links to pictures and videos.

Still prefer to use Imgur to host pictures,
