Car driving theory test

it seems to be a bit confusing about the necessity but dies one need to pass a theory test for a provisional car licence before your allowed out on the road?

do you need to take lessons from a qualified instructor or can i teach them?

yup no need for any tests and i can teach. insurance should not be a problem as they will be going on mine and both 50+ old. its just to share driving when away on days out etc.etc.

Be prepared to get bent over, it's not like it used to be. In the last couple of years our friends kid passed his test and it was cheaper to get a run-around and insure it themselves than add them to either of their parents policy, it was north of £2k either way.

It may have changed again but probably worth a GoCompareTheMeerkat check.

i have always found that putting a woman on my insurance provisional or full has dropped my premium, for some obscure reason. but as you say times have changed.

Here says you can take driving lessons before taking/passing a theory test. I presume by "taking lessons" they really mean "drive on the road" providing you comply with all the other requirements (accompanied, insured etc).

For interest, I supervised a friend's children giving them as much driving experience time as we could manage, but before doing so they had lessons with an instructor and I sat in the back to understand his methods and practices in order that we maintained consistency. Both kids passed first time (with the instructor's car).

not really looking for her to pass a test at moment as she can drive pretty well. its just more of a "take a break" kind of thing when we are up north etc.etc.
