Just back from Inverness as my wife was running the Loch Ness marathon and I was on photo duty. Here are a few of the non-running photos - it's such a beautiful place, I literally stopped the car in the middle of nowhere (no bike unfortunately) to hop out and take the first two.

Cheers, both - we had fantastic weather, all things considered. Some rain, but it made the skies interesting.
Went to Duxford today for their Finale Airshow, bit fresh but sunny and clear. Not sure if this link will work, but was playing with my 360 camera and was underneath the Vulcan bomber

Very enjoyable walk this morning, out in the hills behind Llanfyllin with Mabel. Gorgeous autumn day.

Out for a lovely walk with Mabel this morning. Warm sunshine and gorgeous views.
This has been mostly my immediate view for more than nine years. She's such a good walking/hiking/running companion.

The results of a spot of foraging - 3.5lbs of big, fat, sweet chestnuts. I'm going to enjoy these.

Wow those are nice fat ones. All the ones I've seen this year have been poor.

When i was a kid growing up in Kent, I used to gather loads of big, fat sweet chestnuts. In the forty odd years I've lived here in Sir Drefaldwyn, this particular spot is the only place I've ever found where they grow to an edible size. It was the same last year. The line of trees is in a sheltered spot which gets pretty much full sun all day, so maybe that's why they reach this size. There are literally pounds and pounds of them falling from the trees onto the grass verges and the lane.
Fortunately very few people seem to know about them, which leaves them all to me!

Great photos, Gary. That house is a bit of a fixer-upper ;-)
Nice photos. I guess you're roasting those chestnuts.

There is a row sweet chestnut trees in the park by Trev Towers - I'll go have a look at their nuts (no sniggering at the back) and see what they're like. I have a couple of corkscrew hazels in the herbaceous borders but they produce tiny things.

I shall roast some, sow about a dozen in pots, and store the rest to cook with. They keep for months; I still have some left from last year. I just soak them in boiling water for a few minutes, then peel them and add them to soups and stews.

Do you not just eat them raw? I love them straight from being peeled, but never heard the boiling water trick.
garynortheast

It's just the old, stored ones I put in a jug of boiling water Mike. It helps to rehydrate them, and softens the shell to peel them. The fresh ones I either eat raw or roasted.

I do like that picture. It takes me back to my childhood. I grew up on a caravan site next to a houseboat harbour looking much like that.
I thought black and white would suit the mood of the day.

You had better light it seems Gary than I had today in London. I'll download my pics at some point but I doubt I'll have many keepers.

Walk with Mabel, and a friend and her dogs, up to Moel Sych, and Cadair Berwyn this morning. Wind on the ridge was bitterly cold and so strong in places that it was hard to stand up. Good, albeit challenging hike.
