So how far have you pushed your bike on the Strip/Track

ive had an indicated 132mph it was still going higher but i needed to slow down for a fast approaching bend(ahem... the end of the drag strip/runway), it was pretty near the redline on the rev counter as well

not on an sv, but had an indicated 180mph on an unrestricted Kwak zx10 a few years ago.....redline in top gear

16-07-03, 01:50 PM
I have seen 136mph on the clocks (obviously not what it is actually doing), not sure where the revs were, too scared to look though I think it was pretty much near the red. I wasn't being very aerodynamic and I am a bit scared so it may have gone faster

132 mph on my 1999 svs, would have gone alittle faster, but it was a stuggle to get it that fast  upto 120 is no problems :D

But obviously Im lying through my teeth
Just in case.

I suspect my SV needs some serious tuning or something, it doesn't seem to want to go quicker than about 120MPH. (Indicated 183Kph, plenty of road left but the numbers stayed put :(

130 when I had the bike only a couple of weeks (it was run in) but the petrol light started flashing and I had not seen it before (as I always filled up before going out on the bike, no matter what the mileage) anyway this light started flashing and I thought it was the crash and die light and slowed down, only once I slowed down and was able to have a good look that I realised what it was - doh

150mph on the back of my husband's blackbird on a motorway near Bristol.

Well at my local track *cough m25 cough* i have had a tad under the 140 mark. That was downhill with a following hurricane, but i was 16 and a hlf stone....poor bike

As for max speed on any bike, 165 whilst test riding a SVThou

An indicated 133 on my naked K2 - nose between the clocks, arms and legs wrapped around the bike. With a long enough road maybe another 2-3 mph.

Interestingly with the standard can I only got 126 but as soon as I had a Remus Granp Prix fitted the top end power definitely increased.

Having just been nicked at 97 and with an impending six points coming my way I've decided to keep to around 90 (only three points see?).

Well, I thought I'd been pretty sensible and stayed below a ton, but my GPS seems to think that it's been travelling at a max of 118 (and its only ever been on my bike). Goodness knows what the clocks read, 'cos the GPS is totally accurate and I'd expect the clock to read more. Probably a momentary overtaking blip...

Gets a bit draughty on a naked over 95 (especially since I'm not exactly aerodynamic) so I'm not expecting to be breaking any speed records...

nope just a slight decline that helped the engine to more or less hit the limiter(didnt hit it but wasnt far off it), had seen 132 ish before, thats probably where the power started to drop off and wouldnt pull any further, the decline will have helped the engine pull to near the redline

126 on the naked bandit chasing Joe up the Track *ahem M1*

It's amazing but over 110 it actually becomes benificial to hide behind the speedo & rev counter for wind deflection! Course shortly after I slowed down from this attempt and hit the brakes There was a bang from the rear of the bike as the caliper hit the swing arm

Try as I might I don't seem to be able to get over 130.

I've just bought an '01 S & thought it would have more go than this to be honest.

It was wet & very windy so maybe that's what was holding me back?

Could be that the bike needs a look over. If you bought it privately I'd get a service done straight away, you'll never know how the bike was previously looked after. Could be that the jets are out, ports need clearing*, air filter might need replacing - all these things will effect the performance of the bike.

*Disclaimer: Rambling, and could be wrong, hopefully someone will correct me if this is the case! :D

that sounds like the very test track i was talking about  me and jason went down the clyde valley tourist route then came back up on the motorway where we encountered the "testing area" it was quite wide (couldnt see how many lanes there was due to the millenium falcon-esque hyperdrive effect  )

depends on your size and weight as well, if you are a big bloke there will be more aerodynamic drag, i am an ickle fella so a can hide in the slipstream that the fairing provides pretty well(until i stick my head up and become decapitated due to the helmet catching the wind  )

I'm not into speed per se, (stating the bleedin' obvious) I regard high top end speed as a by-product of hard acceleration, which is highly addictive. I don't go out to try and go as fast as I can, but if I blast away from a set of lights, or manage to overtake a car I've been stuck behind, I find it's rather too easy to hit 90 or so before I back off. If I'm on the motorway (not often) I'll cruise at 70ish. Having a naked SV, albeit with a screen, it's too bloody windy going any faster for any period of time.

jonboy

Dang, I've only managed 115 two-up. Mrs jonboy was on the back and we hit a big bump on the way at just over 100 which launched her at least six inches above the pillion seat and I heard this muffled scream from behind. Needless to say when we stopped I got a right roasting!

129mph I put the larger rear sprocket off the sv650 on my 650s coz lets face it anything over 120 is a bit pointless, I wanted a bit more acceleration when in Wales going to the ponderosa. Anyhow nutty tarts fuel warning light crash light etc etc was very funny! On this lighter note, I remember my older brother came to pick me up from scouts (many years ago!!) I had all ready explained about my hero brother and his monster motorbike (Suzuki ap50??!!) 1977 Jubilee!!. They were impressed that I had brought along my helmet and was being picked up. Anyhow upon my brothers micron noise entrance I climbed on the back, and we endeavoured to make an impressive fast getaway to the expectant crowd. However brother dropped the clutch and the next thing I knew I was looking at the sky. The number plate and the mudguard snapped off and we ended in a heap. We then struggled to pick the bike up and could not get it going as the carbs float bowl got stuck and petrol was leaking out Not good!! Needless to say I bought the bike off him and as it was not restricted and had a 60 kit it was the fastest 50 errhhmm 60 in the west,

Speaking of which, has anyone done a timed 1/4 on their SV? I know there're various tests which say it'll do anything from 10.85 to 13 dead. A stock SV650 K3 will supposedly to 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. Assuming acceleration doesn't taper off too much beyond that, it should be able to manage sub-11 second passes.

i've seen 110mph on my restricted baby, she sits at 90 quite happily and still has a fair bit of go in her

I hit 153 on the Gixxer.... That's more than enough for me. I'll be concentrating on better average speeds by trying to corner faster

i've always found the 2000SVs is perfectly happy getting upto 110, then it will coast to 120 but if the winds with you and your flat on the tank it can get upto 132 is the best i've managed on er a race track ...called the M1.....

A1, Sunday (allegidly)...

A Porche Carerra was driving south, I rolled up behind him & he pulled in to let me past - I thanked him by giving him the 'thumbs up'

And I pulled back in to the left... On this the Porche pulled alongside me and waited... then shot off  I though, right you fecker...

You in your £50,000 car & me on my £4,000 bike... I dropped a cog & nailed it... I shot past him & looked down to see 120mph on the clock (allegidy)...

8-[ 'I better slow down me thinks,' though I...

Still Mr Porche & his 'oh-so' la-de-da missus were impressed

Mis-use of speed on a public road is both dangerous & irresponsible - I promise not to do it again (until the next time)
