what does the forum think about neons on a bike, i'm thinking about 3, one under the engine block and two under the tail, shining either side of the wheel, any comments, advice or P*ss takes welcome :P
Are you sure you shouldn't be on the Nova owners board?

Look even worse than on a scooter at Chelsea bridge. Poor taste me thinks, but maybe I'm just too old :(
M8 I hate to pigeon hole people but neons really are for novas & speedfights with kids hiding radios under the seats and ballancing their helmates on their heads......
Your choice. I wouldn't do it

thanks for all the posts, i just wanted a general idea of what other bikers (especially sv riders) would think. i reckon i'll still do it but since they'll only be visable at night i'll use them for showing :o please keep any comments coming,
anyone know how's best to fit them?

Funny that I've got two white ones illuminating my number plate and two Blues shining on the front discs. I'm not to sure about the hot wirez stuff, perhaps if it was done tastfully ?
But as for the LED bolts I think they look alright and the back ones solved the "hideous plastic thing" ( Standard number plate light) problem nicely.
Cheers Mark.

the leds are okay(if done tastefully), but neons are just plain tacky no matter how used, i used leds as a number plate light when i cut the plastic mudguard off my bike
the poll did say "neons, sleek or geek" nothin about led's other wise i would have said that in my opinion
Neons on a bike would look cool if you could do them properly. Im form the days of Car neons, 1st time Round(Had them on the XR2)
Anyway, they need to be hidden, so you can only see the light produced form the Neon, which isnt easy on the bike, to be honest its difficult on cars to. If you can actually see the tube, then i think it looks crap. You can get very high intestiy LEDs now that would be easier, as they have a very narrow beam anlge, so would clear from the sude but produce a spotlight effect.
Just my opinion :D

Right who remembers Automan on the telly from the 80s. If so what was that blob called that use to follow him about :?:
I was just going to say what Vinyl said, I totally agree with him. If you are going to put on neons the trick is definitely to do it so you can't actually see the neon tubes themselves but just the light produced from them, that can look pretty mean especially if you are talking like a blue bike with blue neons (or perhaps white neons?). The only other thing is don't go over kill, too many neons you will look like a boy racer.

Youre not a real Nova owner then are you ;)

I have never seen people where I'd actually want to say they look so 'gay' as in happy.

Bloody good idea. they last longer and look cool. However much better on a new bike that comes with it. Talking to an Rac bloke at the weekend, who told me about the new buses in London. Basically he was saying that having Neon lights on a bus, cuts down the wiring as all the lights/indicators/brake lights can be controlled by a cpu, sending different pulses at different frequencies, therefore cutting down on wiring (Live and Earth) to each individual light. Suppose it makes it easier to find a fault and repair. I wonder if this idea will catch on with bikes. With all lights as LED's.

Something makes me think it was called Cursor. I could be wrong, though!

Si, i think you are confusing neon with led's. Led stuff is very smart and will probably be the way the manufacturers will go with lighting on both cars and bikes. Neon on the other hand should be reserved for fish and chip shop signage and seedy discos.......naff, naff, naff.....

i dont spend money on the nova (not on mods anyway) the only non standard thing on mine is the gearknob and the strut brace (which i got for free) theres no 45 inch wide tailpipe on mine, nor is there 29-inch alloys(infact it doesnt even have alloys) the last bit of cash i spent on the nova was the 4 new re-mould tyres and the petrol in the tank,
so yes you could say im not a typical nova owner (even though i had another one when i was 18 ), it was a cheap car to buy when i came back from working in holland and i think i might need to sell it soon as the insurance is ****in extortionate they want £900 tpft for a poxy sri (group 7) for a 23 year old,(i had a 944 turbo for £300 a year in holland) i could understand this insurace rate if the car had a 2.0 calibra turbo engine in it but its a 75bhp nova so i think i will need to insure it under me dads name for another year then buy a 1.6 vectra or somthin
Hey,
No more of this Nova stuff that I have no clue what it is... European?
Back to the discussion title... what does everyone think of this? The look? Think it would be very bright? Worth my money? All that stuff. Send me a link for other ones you've seen too. Thanks,
Mitch
Something I saw which looked cool was something Rictus has done to his Sv. Where the lowers are fixed to the bracket near the rad he has replaced the original alan key bolts with a pair of blue(See bonnets of Novas) lights. They shine down onto the front discs and I think look pretty cool. Nice one rictus, ya got a photo of them in the dark.

Hey,
I forgot the link, HAHA. Give me some slack, it's 3:00 AM in Canada.

Hey,
How many of those LED's do you think I would need? Where do you suggest I should place the LED's and what should I light up? Would I be able to mount them under the bike of SV650s? Thanks,
Mitch

aw shucks im all embarrased now  , it took me about a day to do as i had to measure and cut the ally plate and kinda match it up to the bike and adjust it, but im happy with the overall affect
cost me 25-30 quid to do
£5 for 3mm thick 12"X18" ally plate
£10 for motrax Rse-end bracket
£8 for led bolts
spray paint i had lying around the house
Hey,
I was searching through the "cob webs" and remember this thread. I remembered that I have some more neon photos if anyone cares... HAHA. Here they are:

Mine will be going on as soon as i can afford to buy them. My dad has got them on his Honda vt750ace shadow. 24 L.E.D.s in blue all shining off the block and solid back wheel. it looks amazing at night and turns heads no matter where ugo. So the red ones are my route coz me bike is copper. I personally think a red glow from between that lattice aluminium frame will just look so damn sexy!!!!!!

I would rather stick a red hot fork into my left eyeball than have those lights on my bike. And I would pull it out and stick it into my right eyeball than be seen riding with anyone who had them on their bike...

No sorry but that yam looks the absolute f***ing muts nuts. Jap style it all the way my friend!!!!
I'm still thinking on whether or not to do this. Not sure how to do them without been seen. Rear is ok as you can just bolt the LEDs into the undertray but the front will be a lot harder.
Never seen as SV with them on so would like to see someone elses handy work first.

Before you do it make sure you have a browse through the lighting regulations....
basically..
1. only white or yellow light to front
2. red to rear
3. no neon/lighting on moving, rotating parts,
4. neon tubes not on view..
etc, etc, etc

Cursor.
I'm contemplating putting ultra-bright LEDs onto mine, shining down onto the engine itself. Won't be really obvious, just make it look a bit "different". Mainly because I have LEDs sitting here I want to find a use for...

Are these just wired into the headlight/sidelight circuit? I know LEDs don't need much current, but given the reputation for the SVs fragile electrical system, I wouldn't want to risk taking out fuses unnecessarily if/when I bung some LEDs onto things.
i would definetly go for it if they wernt currently "standard equipment" in chav cars.

17-04-05, 11:32 PM
if you've got lowers, you could conceal the lights themselves to give a lighting effect through the holes in the lowers...
Here's a patented Northwind idea, it's possibly very silly, but... If you have lighting down there, add to your setup a bit of plastic tubing exiting just above a likely piece of exhaust header, a large syringe or pipette, and fill it with diesel. Pull up, turn on the lights, squirt a little diesel onto your header- it should burn off, instant smoke machine!
But don't fall off on your own oil slick.
Don't forget that the lights must not be visible from the rear or its an MOT fail (and possible excuse for a pull!)
