View Full Version : Is the SV your first PTW?

Just curious to find out how many people jumped on the SV(S) as thier first PTW.

For me its my second, I bought an RS125 after my CBT, used for commuting and general tarting about for about 8 months but found the lack of power and the constant whine on motorways and longer rides to be frustrating.

I had been eyeing up the SVS for a while and had intended to get one straight after DAS, but due to finances I had to wait, glad I did because of the reduced price deal. :)

So Was your SV(S) your first PTW? What did you have as your first bike?

PTW? Proper two wheeler? if so, then yeah. Would've stuck with my 125 for longer if it hadn't turned out to be a bag of sh**e, so i sped things up and got the SV. Seems to be a popular choice for it as well. (which is why there's so many nice used ones!)

I started on an NSR 125, then an RGV 250 (still have it, it's a beast  shall keep it till I die!) and am currently fixing up my old gs500e to be sold.
Now also a copper K3 owner.

Hey an ER5 ain't so bad, can chew off most cars, nice predictable handling, feels solid, very stable. I learned on one, thought about buying one, but then I saw a SV650S and well the rest is history (blue K3)

Same here, always wanted one but didnt have the fundes so i got a honda vf500 first, had enough 'go' and power for me but it didnt 'go' very often. i spent more of last summer in the garage with it than on it wich was most frustrating :x . then in september my dad tells me he could afford to lend me the money to get a secondhand sv and pay him back :D by wich time the vf was totaly dead, in many many parts in the garage. now all i need is a good summer. bring it on!

pillion years ago, gsxr750, but as I got older could not comfortably sit like a frog and gave up on bikes. hubby passed his test, bought a fazer and was out all the time, so I booked DAS and bought SV. He had wanted to buy one but felt it was too small for him (obviously a lot of you big guys dont think so)

its the only bike I have ever owned and have no interest in changing it at the moment, but if I was to maybe z750 in black.

It had something wrong with it that meant it would pootle around absolutely fine, but if I took it on a motorway or for a thrash it would die. I saw a few moments of brilliance with it, but just couldn't work out what was wrong and sold it. Shame really because I know they're brilliant bikes when they work :(

1998 CG125, slllllooooow, to say the least. Also **** build quality, especially for a Honda. Great for riding in sleet and snow.

1995 GS500. Rusted, very poor reliability, despite what others say. Everything broke after 25K's. Cost a fortune to keep on the road. Horrible to clean. A nasty, nasty bike, but new ones might be better.

2000 SV650. Have not faulted it yet. Swing arm is steel and rusts first, rear number-plate bracket rusted but making new from acrylic. Sooo reliable. Prefer over newer sharp-edged models. Won't sell .. ever!

Lambretta Li150 (125reg) S2, sold it a month ago for £100 squids profit. Got me into biking, did DAS got bitten on the ass by the acceleration of a 'big bike' ER-5  , well it seemed fast - honest. Had a look around & knew an SV was the bike for me. Purchased Jan04, love the bugger to bits.

At some point I'll do a Jelster & get a GSXR 600, but I guess I'll always be heavily twin based. Sad I know but at some point ............ No I'm not gonna admit it. .

This is the best I can do.

In no particular order, and I may forget some, but here goes.

Mobylette 50cc

FS1-E Yam-Brand new "special"( well different paint)

GT185 Suzi- great little twin with "Ram Air" (or so it said on the heads)

X7 Suzi - Brand new ( find an RD, and eat it!)

RD 400 Yam - old coffin tank

H1 Kawa (500 triple) - awsome straight liner, with built in smoke screen

3TA Triumph (old school)

A65 BSA- built from box of bits

CB250 Honda- dream

CD175 Honda- plodder

XS 650 Yam - another polodder

MBX 125 Honda- commuting tool

Ducati 907- less reliable than you think, even for an italian bike

CB 250 Super dream Honda (fitted 400 barrels)

XL 250 Honda- trials bike

CX 500 Honda- always started, always ran

GSXR 750 Suzi- superbike 87 vintage, the one the best.

GSXR 1100 Suzi- awsome engine, handling ere, yes, well, maybe

Commando (fastback) Norton- classic in light blue, kept dropping bolts off

GPZ900 Kawa - strange anti-dive on front forks, never worked right though.

GSX600F Suzi- it worked and was cheap

MT500 Armstrong- built like a brick sh*thouse, great fun watching others try to kick start it, you had to know how.

PC800 Honda- like the Pan,but with huge boot too

Pegaso Aprilia- before they added all that body work, in black and gold

Tl1000s Suzi- brand new, only had it a few months, scared the crap out of
me.

ZX9R Kawa- handled, power, reliable, great bike

2 x T509’s Triumph (new school)- love the looks the first and best streetfighter

1 x Speed triple Triumph (new school)- same as above but with the 955 engine

T595 Triumph (new school)

Daytona 955i Triumph (new school) converted to speed triple front.
Drag raced it to death after it had done 120,000 miles

Bros Product one (650) Honda- more torque lower down than the SV

CB 750 Honda- it sits there in the front garden all year and starts first time, backup bike.

SV 650S Suzi- current daily fix, great machine, pushes all the right buttons for me.

And that’s about it, I haven’t included the bikes I raced or the off road enduro and motocross stuff I had because I can’t be ar**d as it's taken me 30 minutes to do this lot..

Cheers Mark.

Its the only bike I have ever owned and have no interest in changing it at the moment, but if I was to maybe z750 in black.

I had a serious look a one of these, but crap brakes, budget suspension and at the end of the day a two or three year old ZX9/6 would leave it for dead.

Having owned a 9, I just wouldn't be happy.

Bit of a shock really we were in the bike shop only looking as I had dragged her in, she got a good look at the SV (as I had mentioned I wanted one) and she decided there and then she wanted to be on the back of that instead. It was really wierd that I'd just gone in to be nosy and Angie ends up talking me into getting the bike. 8) Mind you I paid the deposit before we left just in case she changed her mind later.

The 1400 was fantasticly smooth and very quick but was a bit heavy in town. As I ride into London everyday I thought I would get something a bit more nimble. Hard work going round corners as well.

Ideally wanted an SV1000S but dealer wouldn't give me enough for the 1400 so I got the 650 instead
