View Full Version : What have you got
Let's see how popular the new shape bike is. I don't know if we have done this.
The winner will be the highest number the loser the lowest.
Let's see what is more popular, put your vote where your mouths are.

No not at all sour grapes lee, there have been loads of posts on here enquiring about the older bikes. Say you got £4,200 to spend on a SV. What do you do.
a) Buy a new SK4 (Girls bike  ) = £4,200
b) Buy a SK1/2 with 2000miles on it with lowers, hugger, cowl, add ohlins front and rear, add braided hoses, add a Race can. =£4,200
Again difficult decision

Yeah, so you have £4200 to spend and that's all you spend? Or, you buy and new bike for £4200 and then spend another £3000 doing it up over the next 9 months justifying that it's cheaper than trading it in for a 749R/GXR600/R1 or whatever takes your fancy, even if you don't really want them, at least it helps your arguement with the missus/GF/bank manager

Look guys get up to date and get a K4
Totally agree with you m8. I find it a lot easier ordering bits and pieces over a longer time and sorting me bike, as opposed to saying to the wife "by the way luv I'm just going to spend £%$^& on a new SV "

Look leigh, sk1/sk2 is more popular by far, I've been only running the poll for 20mins and the sk3/sk4 is already lagging

SexySi, hmmm, but I've bought a SK03 from new and bought all the bits to go on it  And my bank manager doesn't even call me anymore! This 'budget bike' malarky, expensive isn't it :?
Like to see your front and rear Ohlins, maybe at the next Essex massive meet, DO THEY REALLY MAKE THEM FOR THE SK3 ALREADY.

You can see my rear shock - but I'm not taking the front springs out of the forks  Yes, they do SK03 shocks and spring at Harris Performance and MC Technics in Stowmarket.
Next Essex Massive meet - can't make Wednesdays!

Standings so far
SK1/SK2's S's = 42%
SK3/SK4's S's = 40%
SV650 (NEW) = 9%
SV650 (OLD) = 4%
SV1000 = 2%
The 1000's are a bit rare.

it takes some people a little longer to come around to change but they all will eventually
:-& ewwwwww imho i think the older ones are ermmml ets say not as nice "the rounded look so eighties yaaa, i mean get with the times maaaaan", sk3 wins hands down. And as for doing a boike up, nahh not for me if i wanted to spend 000's on a bike for it to look like something else id have spent my money on a GSXR or an R1 or other performance boike...
*Note* I will be buying a new VFR 800 vtec sometime in the near future :)

Hey whats what happened to the X & Y models the SV came out in 1999 not 2001. Are the too old to be included.

Re read the poll. There is a section for sv650s sk1 sk2 this includes the older faired sv650's which will still called sv650s.
In effect they are all sv650s's and sv650, but on the reg document it states what version. Ie: Mine says sv650s sk1.
so there
What we are really trying to do here is show the difference in sales between old shape and new shape
RIGHT NOW THERE ARE MORE NEWER BIKES THAN OLDER SHAPED ONE'S

i fit nicely into the "Other" catergory, thanks. :)
had a K1 though with all the trimmings
can't belive the new one's more popular than the old 'rounded' one. mind you, they both look pretty tasty with the lowers on :)

I think it may have been simpler if you did:
SV naked (Mk1)
SV naked (Mk2)
SVS (Mk1)
SVS (Mk2)
SV1000
SV1000S
Other.....
But that's just my opinion. You could always make a sticker out of it :D
The latter me thinks

I would've thought about buying a K3 if I could've found the cash (or rather, if I didn't mind taking out a bigger loan) but I reckon that the old model's the better choice... You get almost as much bang for considerably less buck, after all. So when I found a nice one- and it's a really nice one- I happily snapped up an old one. Renegade airkit, decent exhaust, Diablos on, and it'll move better than a stock K3 for more than a grand less. Who cares if it's 9000 miles and 4 years old, it's not showing it.
But this isn't an argument against the K3, for me at least. it's an argument for buying a used bike over a new one. There's just not that many used K3s around yet- I think I've seen one- but there's a load of used old shapes. If I can get 9/10s- more than 9/10s- for 5/8 as much, I'm going to do it every time.
If I should need a new bike in 2 years, for whatever reason, and i buy an SV, well, chances are it'll be a K3, because there'll be more used K3s in nice condition then.
Just voted. I agree with davef. Where are the sx's & sy's. I have a 1999 SX in mint condition and has only done 10,000 miles. When i comes time to replace it (long time yet) it won't be with a SK3/4. Although I love the twin thing to bits I just don't like the look of the K3/4's, I prefer the old "curvy" style. When it is time to replace i will probably look towards the TL1000S.
No offence meant to anyone, each to there own. ;)

I second all of that. I'd also look at the Daytona, but that's because it's a childhood dream bike :) probably not all that but nothing can spoil that dream! :D

I was going to buy a 2000 model with lowers, hugger and the rest, I honestly thought the older model was better looking and was all set to buy.
Then I saw the two models up close togather and slowly but surely the new model K3 won me over and over an extra year, the finance cost the same per week.
Plus it gave me the chance to costomise the new bike myself rather than buying one that was already done, cos I like fettling.
Oh yes and the blue ones are faster of course :D

Got to through my cap in the ring and on casting my vote the pole should be 40-40
I bought my K3 because of the deal and principal ,why have on old hat if you can have a new one especialy as it has 3yrs warranty All you K1/K2 owners must learn to move with the times Why buy somebody elses old cast off troubles when you can your own new ones but,big BUT, you can have the man who sold it to you fix it if it goes bang F.O.C.
P.S. I would have bought a secondhand if I could have found one but I
judged the 5/600 price difference warranted new

Come on, admit it. You K3 owners only bought a pointy one because all the nice round ones had already gone...too little too late
K2 in black...the fastest SV650S shape and colour!...(penalty points and ear ache to prove it!!)

I think there might be some manipulation of the figs as we have more
posts than votes naw none of you K1/K2 owners would do this to us
poor K3 owners
Well I'd have to say this is the bitchiest post i've seen yet.... :D
You sure love stirring up the contrevercy don't you Si
Well I originally went to the dealer to look at a K3 as its the first time i'd seen an sv, however there was a mint sk1 with 3300 miles on it (In fastest colour blue) with lowers, cowl and hugger.
Fell in love and applied for finance there and then... Have to say the original model does NOT look at all dated.. Has much more style than the new look but both are nice bikes and have the lovely V Twin engine of course!!
Original Model Ahead when this posted
Let's get really bitchy now All red sv's are the best and the fastest, espically ones with white flames
sexysi
Oh bye the way the poll stands at
SK1/SK2's S's = 41%
SK3/SK4's S's = 36%
SV650 (NEW) = 5%
SV650 (OLD) = 5%
SV1000 = 3%
other = 7%
So it looks like people like the older one better?

Definately looks like nobody likes the nekkids... In fact, there's more Others than there is for any one of the 2 nekkids.
i have to say that i think the sk3 looks a lot better than the old shape in standard form. the old shape looks better with lowers, more like a sports bike. not to sure wether id have lowers on my sk3, just doesnt look right IMHO.
the new frame looks a lot better as well, much more modern and individual!
either way they are all good bikes, just better in blue!
dan
lies, damned lies and statistics eh!!
Probably cos of the price reduction that is why i "upgraded" last year

I cant believe this ran to four pages in a day.....well I can, I supose.
I like my K3, the previous models are pretty but different. I like roundy and I like squary.
There is a lot of users out there that havn't voted yet, 1660 users but only an 129 votes. I wonder who will win. We could always send the results onto Suzuki as a trend analysis.
