View Full Version : Best Slip on?
I'm sure this has been asked a number of times, but I am curious on people opinion on the best slip on to improve sound (add that loud throaty roar), horsepower, and price. Or, the best in each category.

Thanks
...and yes, I put this in the General section first not realizing this was exhaust section here at first. Sorry.
I used to have an ART race can on my K1, that was until I squashed it :oops: :oops: :oops: It's the loudest can you can get ( I think anyway) Sound is awsome. Now have a rene fitted. Same sound only a little tamer. Which going by the way I ride is probably a good idea :roll: :roll: :roll: It really releases the SV v-twin sound so it can be heard as it should. :twisted: :twisted:
i agree about the ART can - there's GSX1300 here with twin ART cans on and it makes the ground shake!
I've got a slightly squashed Art can on atm... I think Rene's are louder tho... :?

The problem with this question is a lot of people will tell you their can is best even when it isnt :lol:
I havent had a good listen to an ART on an SV, but it sounds good on a triple.
But heres some opinions on cans I have heard:
1.Scorpion IMO one of the best sounding very deep on tickover etc. Have heard a few of these and they always impress me;
2.M4 the slipons dont sound anything special, bulid quality is meant to be good but I think Rictus said these are really a full system can and the slipons are not necessarily any better...I may be misquoting him;
3.A16 Kev (Trickdup) had one of these. They are good value and sound very nice and one of the louder cans. On a par with the Scorpion IMO;
4. Blueflame Evo twin port. Road legal with baffles in, good and loud and deep with baffles out. Mixed reports on quality and service. I have this one and I like it. If I was to replace would be a toss-up with a Scorpion but the Evo has the look for me.
I have heard good things about Wolf but havent heard one. Venom cans are cheap and sound nice on a VFR so should sound pretty good on an SV.

Scorpion sound great, I have the road can (£199) but with the baffels out it's the same sound as a race can which you can get for about £139 I think.
Very deep V-twin sound and good quality. There is a Scorpion web-site with streaming sound clips so you can hear them, can't remember the site address though sorry. The only problem I have just now is leaks in the link pipe which cause a bit of wheezing and popping but a bit of silicone will sort this out soon.
People also seem to like Remus and Micron but I think they're a bit more dosh.

Baz, I get popping even tho is took it all apart, sealed it and put it back together. A lot of people seem to.
The only problem with these sound clips is that they depend on how they were recorded, environment, equipment etc etc, so i woudlnt rely on them.
I think for tuning Rictus resommended a full M4 and for sound Renegade on M4 headers. For a slip on I dont know, but quoted improvements are often a bit unreliable and sometimes are for a bike which you could improve just by putting a bean can on the end :lol: (a Fazer???....theres a commonly used bike which I cant rememeber, anyway.....). So try and see dynos of before and after on an SV. Other advice I've had is if you want to improve performance do the air filter and remap too. But if you want just to improve sound this shouldnt be necessary (although someone here had some probs after fitting a slipon).
I had a Art on mine.. and it was feckin loud (needs repair as I bined it).. as loads of people behind me complained. Also poped alot when you roled of the throttle, which is cool.
But I have a mate who has a pair on his v-raptor and that is more than loud its just mad.. you can hear him miles before he gets anywhere. :evil:
popping is usually unburnt fuel. Over time this will burn out the valves and cost heaps to fix (experience talking). Get them set up on a DYNO to be safe.

Most manufacturers do a high level link option. Underseats less common.
