You're looking at the Poll, so you may as well vote . . . .

If you select 'something else' Please specify . . . .

While you are doing that, if you know of where to get whatever it is you would add, and a price, please post these.

That way, if anyone likes your ideas, they can figure out where to get them, without starting a new set of questions running! - Post Pics too if you have them!

The cheapest (well free really) modification I would do would be to drop the forks through the yokes by 5mm. Sharpens the steering beautifully!

I said crash bungs, because it seems to be a common thing... You buy it, you drop it  Protect your investment

I've picked suspension beacsue that is one of the things that has made my SV excellent instead of just good. I've fitted bridgestone 010 front and 020 rear tyres, crash bungs, a race pipe, hugger and had the front forks set up with Ohlins springs etc

Crash bungs, without a doubt. I fitted R&G, but thankfully haven't had to test them out yet (touch wood!)

Other:

Good tyres (Bridgestone 020s or better). Swiftly followed by a can.

What crash bungs do you folks recommend :?:
Also, my bike is throwing chainwax (just putting on a light coating not bucket fulls) up the front of my left boot, is this a common problem with SV's and is the Scottoiler a lot better :?:

I think the Scottoiler is worth it's weight in gold... It's fit & forget

I voted for suspension. My front of my '99 SV is clunky over the bumps. I am 12.5 stone. This is the only thing that irritates me about an otherwise excellent bike.

Of course, since buying it stock standard, I've added a Scorpion race can and an undertray but I'm getting to the front suspension soon!

I said can

Maybe £600 was a little excessive, but still think its money well spent on the best safety device you can put on a bike. At least youve got a chance with car drivers with a race pipe on. Stops your bike sounding like a washing machine too :P

Im with Cloggsy tho. Scottoilers are a god send if youre lazy like me. Will give you tons of extra life in your chain

Thanks for the info - Bikesliders it is then - I had been tempted by the Tech7 ones that have SV on them, but I will always go for a recommendation first.
Scottoiler will have to go on the Xmas list and (as the wife said in the shower last night) I will have to do something about my rsend - those pics of your eliminator look the biz!

R&G's saved by bike the second week i had it, when i threw it down the road. Theres some pics in the photo section of it. Well worth some sort of sliders.

D/Bubbles are nice as well, got one of them. Got to decide on what can im getting this week, and all will be good :)

I changed the fork springs a few months back and wished it had been the first mod I'd made.

Crash bungs are a dam fine idea as well though.

Looking back... I must say Tyres or Can... Not got front springs yet so can't comment but think on recommendations it probably should be top

Crash bungs, with me it's kind of a neccesity. but really I'd do a lot of things at the same time, hugger, oiler, hump, some sort of lowers or bellypan, can and undertray. When I bought my bike, I made sure I'd budgeted for de-uglying and go-fastering.

Tyres?? I thought the 03-04 tyres were at least half decent :?

If by new you mean a K3 and K4 I think the situation re. suspension and tyres may be different, unsure but dont think the front fork situation etc is quite such a problem....but as I say unsure. Also I think the concensus last time this was raised was that the new stock tyres are ok...not brill but certainly ok, i.e. wear them out before changing them.
Ive dropped my bike once and nearly dropped it more than once. I wouldnt take a bike off a forecourt without bungs in future.

So discounting bungs it has to be can for added smile factor, I would say.

Road sense is what I would add 1st up...then lots of experience ( usually obtained free)... then I would put on a rorty can.

nope, think its a small US outfit. They're happy to post though, i believe - but you might get nobbled for import duty. Talk to Cloggsy he seems quite happy with his.

I'm the one vote for the fender extender, after my last SV had one fitted didnt bother to fit one to my replacement, come the wet weather the front Cylnder stopped firing, quite scary if your cranked over at the time. The fender extender is a must on the SV and why it isnt fitted as standard is beyond me, Its OK for you summer only riders but as I use mine all year the exetender now become a good purchase.

This is turning out real informative . . . . . .

I take delivery tommorrow at 9 am of a brand new Blue 650s in candy blue(because it is fastest) . . .I have already had the bungs and oiler fitted and am watching your comments for what else to get . . So far, definitely adding a fender extender and will consider all the extras

Please keep posting . . . .this is real useful for me and will probably help other people that are buying SVs . . .

Thanks :P

Given your recent SV Ecosse record, perhaps stabilisers would be a better idea?  :D

I would add - another 30 bhp!

Could you just imagine in a bike this size lol..

Maybe a dodgem car cushion would make more sense :) Or a load of used tyres tied to the sides.

id add the old sv's frame and bodywork to give it some style    :winner:

Bigger back sprocket or smaller front, I like the extra go you get out of corners...

As I'm from north of the border I think crash bungs would you nicely too

I would go for the lowers.

Loads of sensible riders #i guess . . . . or just hooligans!

Alaniski
18-10-04, 01:32 PM
Now I've had it for a while I'd be tempted to change my mind and say go for a tail tidy first, as fitting mine made such a difference to the look, but since I dropped mine once and got no damage and my mate slid his along the road with nearly no damage, I have to say the best money spent was R & G bungs!

Both bikes look totally undamaged, except for scratches on the bungs!

Oh, one more item I would definitely spen my money on, is the mirror extenders . . probably the best money I spent on my SV!

I bow to the wiser contributors to the forum and maybe bungs would have been the best call. I though have no reservation over admitting that a CCC end can was my first! (Once a hooligan and all that!)
I think unless you are very unlucky the other bits and bobs can be added once your learning period has been completed on the bike.Like get used to how it handles and then get extra grin factor later by adding better rubber.

END CAN that reads 'NOT FOR ROAD USE' .........surely its the reason to own a V-Twin!

Ooh, this one's going again :) I'd say nothing performance oriented, even springs or shock, now that I've done most of the basic mods... Fenda Extenda, crash bungs, can and undertray first. Otherwise you'll never know the benefit of the performance mods.

fizzwheel
18-10-04, 06:46 PM
Can which is what I did first to mine, mind you the previous owner had put on

bridgestone 020's
Scotoiler
Re-sprung the forks and changed the fork oil
forks dropped 5mm through yokes
Lowers

So didnt need much doing anyway, gonna get a hugger next and then probably leave it at that, I'd like an undertray but I ride in the winter and dont like the idea of getting covered in mud all up my back

Crash Bungs are a good idea though

Stig

Can, because stock exhaust is the first thing that you get slated for and its by far the best sounding and looking (high level of course  ) improvement that you can make.

Mr Toad
18-10-04, 08:42 PM
1. Crash Bungs
2. Hugger
3. Scottoiler
4. Fender Extender - not really needed on K4's as there is a rubber flap that covers the front cylinder head
5. Tail Tidy (eg Hamicad) and a slightly smaller plate and rear indicators
6. Correctly setup and adjusted front forks (coming soon I hope  )
7. Louder can - can't hear the stock one when you're filtering
8. Heated grips for the winter

and for London - an alarm and 2 disc locks

For purely aesthetic reasons, the undertray.

The standard one is U G L Y....

If I had to answer this question at the beginning of the year, I'd have said the can, but now .... through experience (I've learnt something!) I'd have to go with crash bungs.

My vote went to the crash bungs. I got mine from Motosliders in the US. Check out their web site. Second mod I made was a Renegade can. Totally transformed my experience of the bike - from a sewing machine into growling, snarling beastie. Pedestrians and car drivers notice me much more now - a good (but cert not foolproof) safety device.

Saw The Last Samuri again last night. Hmmm... Samuri armour and a trusty sword might sort out my ride along Dalston Kingsland High Street...

I believe that Crash Bungs is the same as Frame Sliders in the USA, right? Anyway thats why I said Crash Bungs.

I managed to drop my brand new sv 1 week after getting it wheeling it out of the garage  so I guess I was lucky to get those R & G crash bungs from day 1 :o

Then get a Can to wake up those lazy london car commuters

Hey,

I selected 'Other'. I would eliminate the rear fender as my first mod. It was the first thing I did. Though, frame sliders are more important and would do that first looking back on it. Thanks,

Mitch
