My regular haunt before moving to the middel of nowhere last year. If it's sunny it will be packed with all manner of bikes/riders - watch out for horses, dogs, freerange children, cyclists, cars and anyone else escaping the smoke for a piece of 'tranquil countryside'. Good ginger cake and cheese rolls. Don't follow the track down into the woods if you have ground clearance issues with bellypans/fairing/centre stand.

I am not the best person to ask about directions - and it's been a while sinc eI was 'down south' but I will try to give you a rough idea - you'll be in the right general area at any rate.
Directions from London:
From North Circular take the A104 which starts just before /after the M11 junction depending on which way round the 406 you're going. Follow the A104 North (ie not towards Walthamstow but towards Buckhurst Hill) for about 4.5 miles until you get to a roundabout; turn Left onto 'Crossroads' and High Beach should be signposted from there. Check out www.eppingforest.co.uk/eppfor.html for a rough map although it seems to be missing a few roads (!). Epping forrest a nice place to get lost in and there are a few decent pubs around as well - plus it's not exactly huge so no-one should be MIA for too long. [/url]

If any one out there is sadder than me; the grid ref is TQ410973.

Best cup of tea for miles. Heaps of grated cheese in the rolls. Liver-sausage rolls a speciality. Cake are by Mr Kipling, but instead of serving a sliver, they just hack it into four chunks. Very reasonable prices too.
