View Full Version : Sinc and the Art of Motorcycle Crash Recovery!
Not the best way to introduce myself to the forum, but I'm Cat, Sinc's gf. Hi.
I just thought that you guys would want to know that this morning Sinc had a bad accident and is in hospital awaiting surgery :( He has a compound fracture in his right arm, and has smashed his knee up badly. They are going to have to carry out reconstructive surgery on it, and I am told that he will be in hossie for some time (otherwise I would have left if to Sinc himself to post). Luckily they have detected no head or internal injuries.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news .... here's hoping that his op's a success and that he's back at his pc in no time to hassle you all again!

sorry to hear this. hope hes back on his feet soon. hope your ok too cat. all the best to you both
Thanks for your good wishes guys. A quick update ...
Sinc is still in theatre, it's been 6.5 hours now :( They are operating on his arm first and putting his leg in a cage for now. He's also damaged his foot (all on the right side) and lost half his left thumb. When he comes out of theatre he will go to ICU. I don't know when I will be allowed to see him but when I do I will pass on all your good wishes to him :)
I will let you know when he's ready for the rabble to visit!
Hope he has a speedy recovery and the knee injury isn't too bad.
I reckon the Merc driver was turning left and only looked right for oncoming traffic as he swung out of the side road.
Saw an accident today on my way home from work, looks like a BMW cage pulled out of a side road into the path of an oncoming cage.
The odd thing is, there was an accident at this same place about the same time yesterday!
OMG, 6.5 hours in theatre  Hope he feels comfortable & gets fixed up real soon
Get well soon sincs lad!!
Positive thoughts and plenty of pills will heal the injuries faster :)
We are all thinkin of you mate. Speedy Recovery to you
k guys - I have just heard that Sinc is out of theatre and in ICU. The op took 9 hours! (the waiting was horrible) And they haven't even started on his knee yet ...
Thanks again for all your kind wishes - I'm sure the good vibes being sent have helped :) I will keep you updated.
I think I am gonna get drunk now.

Ah, bloody hell, he's in good hands at least. best wishs to you both.
You'll have no problem being allowed in ICU. The Mrs was allowed in when I was in there and I was still critical at the time.
We all really are hoping for the best. Thanks Cat for spending the time to let us all know how he is doing.

:) I know Sinc would want you guys to know.
I am allowed to visit him this afternoon along with his best mate (Sinc and I don't live together so I haven't got 'partner' status  ) so I will let you know how he is doing when I get home. He is off the ventilator now, tho still in intensive care. His arm is also in a cage, and they will be operating on it again tomorrow to fix it up properly. His leg is not looking good ... we will have to wait til early next week to find out the prognosis .... and he will need at a least another op then :(
I will pass on all your best wishes to him :)
Hope he makes a full recovery and thanks Cat for keeping us informed on how he's doing.

Hard to type what you want to say when you read news like that. Make a good recovery Sinc.

ok guys - I was able to visit Sinc today. In himself he is doing amazingly well ... taking the ****, moaning about the nurses etc etc  and the self-administered morphine shots are helping tho he is still in a lot of pain.
First off, he thanks you all for your kind thoughts.
Second ... when he is out of intensive care he will be happy for any of you guys to visit :) PM, MSN or email me please for details - or if you wanna send anything etc.
As far as how he is physically .... he has to have another op tomorrow which will sort his arm out. His elbow is pretty mashed so that will need attention. Plus they may do more to his leg, it depends on what they decide at the time I think. But the bones are in smithereens in his lower leg and he has lost his kneecap completely. His foot in a goner too :(
The good thing is that he is dealing with this very well right now, and that all his vital organs are intact.

Haven't been here too long, but I wish the both of you the best of luck in dealing with this.
Always sad to hear about this type of thing.
Just curious, but do you know what gear he was wearing?

I rode with Sincs only once (when we went to Plymouth for Matty's
funeral) and he gave me the impression of a sensible rider with good
riding skills. Of course, he rode faster than I do (I am the slowest
biker on this forum) but not dangerously fast. And I don't recall
him overtaking dangerously. It is really worrying that someone like
Sincs who is by no means a nutter can get into a serious accident.
I hope the surgeons manage to fix you, Sincs.
All the best to Sincs, Cat, family and friends.
I hope that it all goes well, and that he is back on his feet soonest.

God! I've just seen & read this thread - computer problems and a busy couple of weeks has kept me off the board a fair bit more than I would have liked.

Just read this thread, $hit!
I hope you get well soon Sincs, that fact that he has energy to complain and make jokes is a good sign that his spirit is still full of beans.
Each time I read something like this I have to head home on my bike. It's little consolation but it keeps me reminded that I am mortal and I enjoy living.
keep safe guys and let's all try learn a little from it.

Had no idea the injuries were so serious, I reallu hope he keeps his morale up, it must be really hard not to fall into the trap of dispair, he sounds like he's doing really well.
I'll keep in contact with Dr Rich and we'll make arrangements to see him as soon as are allowed, so please let us know.
Best wishes to Sinc, you and his family.
p.s - huge thanks for taking the time to keep us all updated on his situation/condition :)

Mate - Sinc is doing fantastically well considering :) He is already trying to adapt physically and doing a perfect job of it despite the fact that he has more operations to undergo and still doesn't know the outcome. If anyone needs a lesson in coping with accidents .... turn to him :) His attitude and approach are awesome - I really don't know how to express this.
I will of course, let you know when he is out of the woods and able to have visitors other than close family etc.

Terrible news. Best wishes for recovery.
Let's all be careful.
Well we finally know what they are gonna do with Sinc's leg .... away with it! He's getting a parrot instead!
Sinc made that decision today - he could have kept the leg but it would have meant years of grafting and pain and no knee to bend. But this way he'll eventually be able to do pretty much everything he did before, especially if the falsie is fitted with turbo-boost and a go faster stripe! :)
So ... the op's tomorrow, and they may reset his arm then as well, as the elbow's a bit fooked. Should be ok eventually tho
The 'good' thing about this is that at least he will be free of pain in his right knee - the one that has been giving him gip for years and was gonna have an operation on - we thought side-swiping a cage was a bit of a drastic move to sort it out, but hey!
Cat, you are one brave girl. So's Sincs. Jesus, that's bad news indeed, just wish there was something we could do. Please keep us informed and give him our very very best wishes and regards.

Thanks mate :)

A little "extra" thrown in by the NHS for good measure?
Sorry about the leg, but the decision is probably the correct one. I've seen a few folks try to recover from injuries like this but it often ends up that way in the end.

It's quite a brave move to opt for the opperation, I hope he pulls through the other side with a smile on his face.
There is a guy in this months RiDE magazine (I think) who has had a leg removed and he seemed quite pragmatic about the situation.
That's a helluva gutsy decision, peeps.

I've away for a few days and just picked this up. Thanks to Jonboy and Bluebell for pointing this out to me.
Firstly I'd like to pass on my thoughts to Sinc and Cat, despite the brave face that they are putting on this situation, it must be hell.
I'd like to offer the same assistance that I did for BigApe a few weeks back, that is setup a collection fund. Money doesn't solve everything, but it can make things a little easier.
I start a new specific thread for the collection, full details will be given there.
Best wishes and a speedy recovery.
Sinc had the op last night and is feeling happier today :) although obviously the pain ain't too much fun but he's coping brilliantly  Another op for his elbow/arm tomorrow, then it will be the road to recovery :) *reminds self to purchase parrot at lunchtime*
Good news. All the best (again) for the next one then hopefully a quick recovery. Whhile you are out for the parrot, also possibly pick up a deed poll form for the name change to long john :)
I start a new specific thread for the collection, full details will be given there.
Anyone know the prices of parrots, crutches and morphine? Ditto the necessary mods to bike so it can be riden without the rear brake*?
[*I'm assuming he doesn't want to be seen on a scoot  ]
Had an email from Sincs big bro, Gordon - apparantly Gordon's getting married in 3 weeks time. Hope that all goes well and that Sincs can get there for it [-o<

I know I've PMed you mate, but I'd like to say here ...
that I don't know what to say... Except THANK you so so much, to all of you ... thank you :) Sinc will really appreciate this :) You guys are wonderfully supportive and a great tonic, it's a pleasure being here :)
I've just caught up on the rest of this thread, and I'm shocked and amazed at what has happened, and Sinc's courage in the face of something so awful. I remember sitting in the Hospital only a couple of months ago with my squashed arm, relieved that it wasn't my leg, and I still had my mobility.
Cat, please keep us informed about Sinc, I do very much hope that he's okay and makes the best recovery possible! :)
