View Full Version : That stang a little!
Yep, I got discharged from hossie yesterday, and learning all the challenges that are presenting themselves now being at home one one leg, let alone the constant bum-shuffling to navigate the stairs (cant use crutches yet due to my right arm still being as tight as a northerner you have just asked to buy you a drink!
I dont recommend that anyone tries to ride a motorbike down the side of a car at about 50mph (cant go into too much detail about causes of the crash as a money linching, tight fisted, theiving ****-sucker of a money grabbing ******* insurance person is reading, not that I have just done my case my good anyway!), as it tends to leave a little bit of a mark, and a small headache in the morning!
Basically, after my first sight of the car, thinking "oh ****" and knowing I was going to hit it & there was **** all I could do about it, the next thing I remember is sliding down the road, looking at my leg (again, wont go into that much detail as some monitors may get vomit coloured styling, but surfice to say the leg exploded on impact), noticing that the bottom of it was to be seen trailing me down the road, and thinking that is going to hurt when I stop. Needless to say it had. Anyway, I dont remember much about being in A&E apart from being breathalised (why the rozzers couldn't just collect some of the pints of blood that was ****ing out of my leg and do a blood test is beyond me!), but I was told I spent an hour and a half in x-ray, and a total of about 11 hours in surgery. 8 op's later, 4 barrels of morphine, some of Bristols finest (albeit weak) ket and a super-tankers worth of pills later, I am now an amputee with a massive scar (about a foot long and 4 - 5 inches wide from where the skin ripped in the accident) metal work in my elbow and a wicked looking scar on my elbow (pics to follow when I can be arsed to).
In some ways wearing denim jeans saved further injury as the jeans ripped and let the leg go with it, where as if I had been wearing leather jeans, the chances are the force would have made my thigh go back, rip out of the hip socket, or worse, completely rip the hip joint.
Kudos to my family, Martin (best mate) and Cat for their support (which has been draining for them all) with which I was able to get through this. Also, thanks to everyone who posted to the thread started with Cat
Nice to see you back Sinc....
Dunno what to say to that.. I can only cringe at the thought.... I know the feeling of just before the crash knowing its inevitable tho from my own crash...
Nice to see you and Cat keeping a positive attitude about it on the whole tho

Sinc, I was lucky and escaped that sort of serious injury mainly because I fell off before I hit the car, but what I had was bad enough - can't imagine what you describe. You and Cat have shown the most amazing guts. It's great to know you're out the hozzie! Well done, mister.

Yes, Sinc, you beat us (Dr Rich, Term and myself) by 24 hours. We
had to cancel our planned visit to the BRI and went straight to the Ostrich
instead. Let us know when you are mobile so we could go out for a drink.
Glad you are out.

Glad you're back home Sincs, if I can get up to see you I will. Take care of yourself and don't get too frustrated getting used to a new way of living - I'm sure you'll make the very most of it.

Hi Sincs, welcome back home.
Great to see you back home Sinc, I share your respect for Cat she is amazing, as are you.
So plans to get a trike then???? I am sure we could build one round an SV engine
welcome back and I am really pleased to know you are home and healing. Good luck with the recovery.

Maybe a trike, but also thinking about getting a bike modded in a few years. One thing from all this is that if I drop the bike on the right side, it wont hurt me as much
As for those planning on coming to see me last week, sorry! I will arrange a time for us to all meet up in Bristol once I have done a bit more rehab and managed to find a supportive dressing that stays on my stump as tubigrip keeps rolling off.
I s'pose I could use tubigrip instead of eleastic bands to flick at people across the pub

Doh, brainfarts strike again.
I would also like to say a HUGE thanks to all those that donated to my collection. When Cat told me one had started up I was stoked, and when she told me how much you guys had collected, all I can say is that is was a good job I was lying down at the time. I was really, really surprised so.. THANK YOU!
This is another reason that shows how the biking community sticks together, and why our relationships are so much better than cage drivers.
YOU ARE ALL STARS! THANK YOU
*wonders off to get the remaining farts out of his brain*
Sincs, you are amazing !!! lets just hope that your sense of humour holds out after watching day time tv !!

Glad to hear you are out of hospital. Your postive attitude is an inspiration to everybody. Hope you speedy recovery continues
i've never "chatted" to you before mr sincs, but i've closely followed cats' postings of your accident, and i feel i am in the presence of somebody far far far braver than i ever could be.
you are an inspiration, i'm in bewieldered awe at your positive mental attitude. if i was wearing a hat, i'd take it off to you.
in fact i'm going to look for a hat to put it on, just so i can take it off again.
all the best mate,
keith
Your positive attitude is a complete inspiration

Sincs,
We've never met, but hopefully, you, me and the Ostrich will coincide in the near future and I will be honoured to buy you a pint.
If this "club" was strong before, your courage (and Cat's) and fantastic spirit has made it even stronger. I am "stoked" (can a 50 year old use that term legally  ) to be part of such a brilliant community.

Glad you're home Sincs. I've never met you, but your (and Cat's) attitude throughout this whole ordeal has been an example to us all.
I wish you a speedy recovery ... you're one cool customer.
All the best mate. Can't add anything at all to what has already been said.

Yep, once I am up and about, and my **** has learned that it is going to be flat for the next few months and not round, then a big Sv gathering is to be had! :drink:
When Cat showed me some of the thread while I was in hossie, then she told me about the collection, and how much it has raised, I was truely gobsmacked. I didn't know what to do nor say.
I will be honoured to meet as many people from this forum as I can, as the support from this place has been absolutely superb. People are saying how much they respect me for getting through this, but I respect everyone for their support, and their thoughts and comments.
Knowing that you have people rooting for you, and wishing you through a bad accident helps to keep morale up, and when people visit, it brings it home how much this place is not a forum, it is a community, and one that I can honestly say I am honoured to be a part of.
:crutches: I'll be back! :crutches:
One day, I will be back on a bike, or a trike, but no matter what, I am now SV650 through and through!
Would be awesome to be part of a ride out with you guys and with me on a V8 trike, just to annoy all those who think they have a nice sounding engine!

Sincs....I am the odd ball over in Espaņa! I vanished from the forum for a while and on my re visit I read of your accident. No words from me could truly do justice to the spirit and determination that you have shown through your injuries and the fantastic support of your lady Cat, immensely superb.
keep your chin up pal and as you have seen there are plenty of people around for assistance if needed.Top Man and Lass!
