Well according to the met office sunday is going to be bright and dry @13 degrees.

Anyone fancy meeting up in Newbury and heading for the coast (Bournemouth) for a nice cup of tea or an ice cream?

Newbury - andover - Salisbury - ringwood - Bournemouth

start knotting your hankie's boys and girls!!!

Sounds bloody brilliant to me. I actually live quite near to Bournemouth.

 Too far for me ......

Great idea though .... maybe get across to North Wales & see the sea!

Have a good one!

My options are now Exeter and Devon or Newbury and Bournemouth....it seems I have to go even further afield to find someone to play with (so to speak). I think this might be a little far at this time of year for me.

Sounds like a goodun to me, Exeter and Torquay seems a bit far for a day trip. Come on Dr Rich, we could split the difference  and meet you around Westbury/Warminster and then meet up with Rukus et al at Salisbury :)
Just keep me away from the sweetie shop (otherwise known as Crescent Suzuki  )

Crescent is where I bought my bike, I think those service intervals have nothing to do with charging for the work and everything to do with me buying more stuff.

I know I suggested this, but I'm going to have to back out. Have just found out my dad has had a fall and has broken bones, and so I'm going to go and see him for the weekend.

If anyone goes, I hope you have a good time, and apologies for backing out at the last minute

All the best

Ruk

I can suggest a convenient meeting place: Warminster Services
(Little Chef & Burger King) which are located on the Northern
intersection of the A36 and A350. I say "Northern" because South
from this intersection there is a short stretch of road where the
A36 incorporates the A350 (this is actually the ring road around
Warminster) after which they separate again. In any case, Warminster
Services are marked on all decent road maps.

Warminster Services are traditionally used as a bikers' meeting place
due to ease of access. If someone indicates a time I will turn up.

Rukus, sorry to hear that, hope it's not too bad.

Prof.
It'll take me about 1 1/2 hours to get there.
We could look to meet at about 11:00 ish to leave at 12:00.

Rukus, Sorry bout you Dad, hope Carsick and Proff are big tea drinkers
Timing sounds fine.
For a route, what about Frome, Shepton Mallet, Bath, Trowbridge, Warminster? About 70 miles, but we could reduce it en route as it's circular?
So is this ride a "go,go,go"?

I think the pint mug sitting by the keyboard answers the tea question.
The route sounds good to me, I don't get many opportunities to ride round that area since I'm usually in too much of a hurry and have to take the M4.

Fine! So Warminster Services 11:00 ish to leave at 12:00 it is.

The suggested circular route is OK with me. I don't travel in that
direction too often but I know that it is a pleasant scenic route.

Just in case: my mobile number is 07947 168970.

Sorry to hear about your dad, Rukus. Most of us have problems with
elderly parents. You should try to see a silver lining in
everything. Say, this Spring my mother spent 3 weeks in hospital and
I had to visit her every day (initially she was very bad). I used
that as an opportunity to do some extra biking: the parking problem
at the RUH in Bath is horrendous but if you come by bike there is
no problem at all.

Thanks, Leigh and Michael, for riding with me and tolerating my geriatric
pace! I think we were lucky to escape the rain and the ride overall was
most relaxing and pleasant. Hope you got home safely.

Trust me, your pace was meteoric in comparison to the lorries I got stuck behind on the way back to Salisbury.
It was a good day out, definitely good to slow the pace a bit, now and then.

The route was scenic and as Michael said it is good to actually take it in sometimes :)
My abiding memory is the look on the faces of the waiters and diners in the Pump Rooms of Bath (of all places) as three bikers stroll in. For those not in the know, this is a very upmarket dining establishment from which you can view the ancient Roman baths (thanks for saving us £8 Dima  )

Sorry, not online all weekend (in fact away for much of it). Sounds like I missed a good one.
