How much does it cost in total to get a full motorcycle licence in the UK ?

Including training ?

- it's for my Boss he's 35 and has a German Car licence.

I don't know because i made mine in Austria which cost me £500 altogether.

Thanks for your help.

Ring around some local riding schools and find out, seems to vary greatly depending where in the country you are

cbt: something like £125
4 day direct access course: £500ish
Theory test: errrmmm... can't remember but somewhere between £25 - £50

Did mine at a bike school in Chelmsford. Can't think if I've missed anything here...

Wow you paid tooooo much

CBT £70
3days DAS £240
plus a wasted £50 to insure against further instruction fees if I failed my test

I paid 440 (ish)

5 days intensive inc. CBT and test (no theory as I already had my car license)

I don't know if I paid too much, but I passed first time from having ridden one or two times in my life. So I was happy!

in 2003 I paid about £600 in total, including:

1. Theory/Haz Perception Test
2. CBT
3. 2 days instruction on a 125cc bike
4. 2 days instruction on a 500cc bike
5. a few hours instruction before the test
6. Practical Test.

All bike hire was included, as was all admin, contact with test centres, test booking, etc.

This was for someone like me who'd never riden a bike of any sort ever.

When was this? Not in the last couple of years, I think

All depends on his level of experience to date, but somewhere in the region of £400 to £600 should probably cover it.

£600 in total is a good estimate.

Also, the price may depend on how many attempts you need to pass
the test. My instructor was nice and continued training me for free
after I failed my first two attempts.

Sounds right.

I have a colleague who, being jealous of me and my Hornet  , went to the same bike-school as me to learn to ride. He told them he'd ridden a bit a few years before ( :^o ) and they gave him a course which was cheaper than mine but which include one day's less instruction (I think it was 1 day rather than 2 on a 125cc bike and 2 days on a 500cc).

I passed first time.

It took him 3 goes to pass his test and he's more than 10 years younger than me. It cost him more in the end

There's a bit of good advice lurking in amongst the above drivel

Nope - Week ending 14th July 2000. Apparently I *just* got in before they brought out new rules. As with you, all bike hire, admin etc etc etc was taken care of for the price...

The cost can increase if you start failing and have to pay for the test and bike and instructor hire. Don't count on passing first time even if you are a good rider, one little mistake is all it takes.... :(

Definitely worth ringing round.

Checked with one school in Manchester who wanted nearly £600 incl CBT & full test.

Then checked with one in Blackpool - same distance to drive to get there - £375 for same course!!

No thats the full package. When you did your CBT thay asked who wanted to progress through a DAS and they assessed how many days instruction you required by your performance on the CBT, then offered an additional £50 to cover subsequent bike hire/instruction etc should you fail your test for however many times you would need it so for me it was half day on 125s followed by 2 days on 500 and a further half day on the day of my test.
