Yes. It happened.
Got home from work and there was an empty space where I park my bike outside my house.
Worked out it was stolen between 18:30-19:30, and my flatmates were in at the time, just 5 meters away!
Needless to say i'm gutted.
Owned it from new for 4 1/2 years :(
reg is W428 RVT in the unlikely event on it being spotted

B'stards... Hope you get some news soon... What was the cop's reaction (out of interest )
Scumbags. Glad I got mine into a garage for the winter, althought that's no guaruntee.
Killing for bike thieves, 1st offence. It's the way forward. I'll write a strongly worded email to Mr Blunkett for you first thing tomorrow.
Gutted for you mate. I remember the feeling well. Get around every single neighbour and ask if they saw anything. My Mum did this when I had a GS550 stolen in 1984. She found one girl down the street who had seen a van close by at the time. She even remembered the trade name on the side. Gave the info to the coppers but heard nothing. I chased them up after two weeks to see if they had heard anything and they said they had been too busy to follow it up!!!! They rung me back that night to say they had tracked down the van and found the bike but totally stripped. I should have sued the CID for my excess.

Just some routine questions followed by a warning that i'd be charged for recovery and storage if it's found! nice

Horrible news, I'll keep an eye out of course.
What sort of security did you have? In the interest of others taking precaution.

Just had a U-Lock through the front wheel. Usually have it chained to a gate, but typically not last night!
I've never been a great fan of bike alarms as people ignore them and they drain the battery, but it would have been bloody useful last night as my flatmates were sitting a few meters away inside the house.
I found the remains of the steering lock (bit of casting off the frame) on the drive this morning, so i guess they rode it away rather than a back of a van job...ba**ards!
Rich
p.s. the rear tyre was nearly bald, so i hope they crashed it in the wet and are in lots of pain

It's likely it will be recovered in this case, although in what condition is anyones guess - however I've had mine (not SV) back in sound condition with very minor damage.
U-lock apparently are useless these days, a bic-type pen will open them - people on here have tried and tested this method it's been told.
I share you view on alarms, I think like you point out, it depends where the bike is kept - sometimes they will attract the right attention, sometimes they wont, it's an additional measure to take. Personal I don't.
Here's hoping for you.
   Sorry to hear about your baby. :(
If there is anything worse than binning your bike its having it nicked. Really sorry for you.

oh no! fingers crossed that it finds its way back to you. In the meantime keep an eye out on ebay, as last year we managed to catch someone who stole a friend's TLR when he put the parts up for sale there...
