advice on the cb125tdc....

The bike will tick over without the choke, however you go to pull away and there is no power...it dies on you..if you blip the throttle a few times it will pull away..but it just seems alittle gutless..(i know i have been riding my SV..) if you pull the choke lever it will die on me...

I am guessing this is something to do with the carbs, possibly the jets being partially blocked?!?

any other ideas

Sounds like you need a carb rebuild kit and to set the floats. I'm guessing this bike is older and spent some time sitting?

Yes the bike was first registered in 1985...and has spent 2 years in a garage...how did ya guess... :D

I know this sounds a bit random, but with a cg125 I used to have (quite similar except it's a single) I had a very similar problem. The bike would do all of that if it got left for more than a few weeks. It turned out it was a combination of rubbish rings and probably fuel degrading in the carbs.
A tablespoon of oil into the bore and kicking it over alot, then fresh fuel and alot more kicking and it would eventually get going properly.

Fraser, there is a substance you can get from Halfords - (the name escapes me - sorry) that is like standard carb cleaner but much, much stronger. Some kind of petrol distilate. This may be worth a try with a can of compressed air before doing a carb strip. Also worth replacing the fuel filter and cleaning the fuel valve and pipes with comp air.

Before I used this on a Ninja that had sat idle for a good couple of years I read lot's of stuff off google groups about it's usage. The opinion was mixed - some were of the view that the substance can also damage rubber seals if it's strong enough to disolve years worht of fuel varnish. maybe worht a try if you don't fancy a major job.

If you did not drain the carb , then when you take the float bowl off be prepared for a substance simmilar to treacle in there clogging everything .

or the opposite condensation that will have furred up the jets with verdigree (spelling)

lots of TLC cleaning or new jets is the way
