Hi,

just wondered if people in general leave their bikes in airports and how safe they think it is. I'm planning to go away for a weekend flying out of Stansted airport which has free bike parking in its long term car park but not sure how safe its going to be there.

Any opinions! Thanks

I'd imagine it'd be pretty secure, most airport car parks are and most are monitored by CCTV. However you should still take the usual precautions (massive chain, etc.).

On another note, I'm sure jonboy will be interested to know what capacity your topbox is and how big a suitcase you can fit in it! :o

I've thought about this on several occasions, but have always been put off by the need to leave boots, leathers, jacket, helmet, etc.
Do they have anywhere you can store these, eg. lockers :?:

Left mine at stansted for a long weekend once, No problem, Security is quite good there, they have cameras permanently focused on the bike park too......

Dunno if anyone monitors them tho

I've left mine a couple of times at Gatwick - a week each time. Get a dirty great chain and loop it through your helmet (takes care of the helmet issue). Everything else has gone with me on the trip (jacket, boots etc).

Don't know about Stanstead - never parked there. Should imagine it's pretty safe, though.

Never left a bike there, car was fine for a week, and there were lots of bikes in the bike park so obviously a lot of peeps trust it.

left my bike at glasgowairport on friday returned sat night. l didnt park in a bay no specific parking for bikes so i just parked in front on a car beside the payment machine, no chain, no disc lock, no immobiliser, no alarm. but i mentioned to the staff wandering around if it was ok to leave it there. they agreed it was as there was always someone wandering around and they would keep an eye on it for me. when i stared it up last night at 11pm a guy came out the office and waved to me.

just keep the bike someplace public
