I had to wear my Alpinestar waterproofs for the first time today  Top quality bit of kit & I was dry as a bone when I got home
Depends what size you are, coz I'm selling my missus's set on eBay ATM, take a look here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2496402702&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT)

I just wear a pair of ordinary waterproofs from an outdoors store (£10) which work a treat, and a ridiculous Linkin park tour jacket I got for helping cart flightcases a few years back, it's fairly waterproof and has elastic cuffs :)
If it's really wet I wear my cordura trousers with the armour taken out over my leathers, and the waterproof jacet over the cordura jacket. But to be honest, this makes you walk like John Wayne and makes it slightly difficult to get on and off the bike.

I find that I have to fight to get in and out of 1 piece waterproofs so went the 2 piece route. Hien Gericke do an over jacket for about £25, and over trousers for abot £20. This means that you can wear just the jacket if you think you may get a shower at some time, and they're good wind stoppers too.
.
I bought a "Frank Thomas Aqua Sport Suit"
http://www.ane-shop.co.uk/prod/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=31_48&products_id=928&osCsid=769d19529aa0855ee771bda8191c39ae
I've riden in the rain over the last few weeks and not once has it let me down. True, it is black, so I wear my Hi-Vis waistcoat over it, and its a strugle to get on and off. Still good value for money - less than £50.

that reminds me - i got a less than jake tour jacket somewhere - ill dig it out.
also - think i might pop down to my local camping shop and then to army + navy to see what they got there.
i always found that motorcycle gear is expensive compared to normal gear (i.e thermals and such)

i wear a one piece ricah set £30,fit easily over leathers theyve been 100% waterproof and warm(they stop the wind chill)and i ride in the ****test of weather for 100's of miles at a time, pretty easy to get on and off large zips on the legs and a slanted main zip that goes to below the groin..zip can be a bit fiddly and gets snagged easily though
Agree with Cloggsy, the Alpine Star waterproofs are excellent. Don't let in any water whatsoever and dry in minutes when you get back home. Do buy one size bigger than normal as they're obviously designed for some tiny Italian. Not only are they good value but they're the only waterproofs I've seen that look reasonably cool too. ;)

went to a bike shop
went to millets (camping shop )
and army and navy (army shop)
the bike shop had a once piece suit for 45 quid.
millets had nothing
the army shop had a sniper suit (an oversuit that keeps the water out - warmth in - and dries in seconds) for 25 quid.
tempted by the sniper suit - but trouble is - its in camo colours - so id be an ovious target to the taliban drivers :D and i might look like a tit
and also - all the motorbike waterproofs are all in black. as id be wearing it when its raining - id be even harder to see

Aye, why is it that all the bike waterproofs are such dark colours? A suit with hi-viz patches would make a lot of sense.
or even reflective seems or something

i'd like massive hi-viz pathces, but then I own a leather jacket with huge reflective yellow patches that makes me look like the fastest binman in the world.
Rain? Waterproofs? Mine is made by Toyota at the mo warm and dry and even has built in entertainment and sat nav. A bit pricey tho......
I'm convinced that hi-vis clothing makes you feel safer as you expect everyone to see you. Which is the danger - they won't. Expect to see them (through practised observation) but don't ever expect them to see you.
Oh and one piece suits are so awkward I really wouldn't bother. As for the sniper suit, yes, you would look a tit.

Especially in camoflage gear on a yellow bike. But you would stand out :D

my thoughts exactly - if your in someone's blind spot - no matter what your wearing and how bright you are - there still not going to be able to see you.
i used to wear a hi vis jacket when i was learning to fill in for my mistakes.
but wearing all black i feel is asking for trouble

I think I picked up the same storm as you yesterday, although I was on the slip road just coming off the M25 when it hit
- thunder & lightning all over the place, sheets of water blowing across the road  .
I've got a Buffalo one piece which is great, and I even had it with me 8) Unfortunately I was soaked to the skin in under a minute, both my boots and gloves filled up with water before I could find somewhere to pull over  , so I just kept going
see http://www.bifax.co.uk/rain_suit.html for the Buffalo - mine is the one with the Yellow shoulders - certainly bright enough to be seen. Legs are quite long, so I keep a couple of elastic bands to snap round my boots to stop them from slipping down too far

I got a one piece belstaff waterproof for a tenner as it had a big girly pink strip on it and the bike shop had been trying to sell it for a year with no luck.
Works very well, whenever it looks like rain there is no way I will go out if I have to put that fecking thing on :o So must be the dryest waterpoof known

I think you're talking Hi-vis down too much, jonboy. Yes, I agree you never assume they've seen you, but I know just from driving a car in bad weather that bikes+Hi-vis are much more noticeable than bikes+black.
I use "flexothane" jacket and trousers, and it's totally waterproof so far (admittedly I don't ride in all weathers all the time any more, but so far so good) and most important it's breathable. This kind of stuff
http://www.safetysupplies.co.uk/trolleyed/23/index.htm
The Sioen flexothane really is good stuff, light, flexible, and very slightly stretchy.
I used an Akito one piece pvc suit - it was totally waterproof but not breathable, so you ended up with so much condensation inside you may as well not have bothered (free to anyione who wants it!)

Certainly I can't pretend that Hi-vis isn't far more noticeable than black and obviously this has to be of benefit. However, my point was based on the perceived psychological "shield" that it could give and this in turn could be a very real danger; after all if someone thinks they're safe it doesn't mean that they really are. Though blue and white chequered strips might just make a small difference. ;)

Just bought an Alpinestars jacket - luvverly.
BTW
I'm selling a pair of cordura Belstaff trousers and GIVING AWAY my old Belstaff jacket!
See 'Free Jacket' on the 'For Sale' board
So on the whole you think my black helmet, black leather, and black waterproofs aren't such a good idea then? :D

Got Frank Thomas Aqua trousers and Alpinestars jet something or other waterproof thin jacket that I wear over my normal jacket, never got wet yet
The trousers have reflective patches on the bottom of the trousers and the jacket has a reflective strips on it

I unerstand where you're coming from Jonboy, but then again you could say the same for full leathers... i think the clincher comes if you fall off and end up lying in the road!
or even reflective seems or something
I use 2 piece waterproofs from Screwfix £9.99 and they work great. If you want hi-vis then their highway jacket and trousers would work ;)
Pop into a builders' merchants and have a look, they've always got cheap effective waterproofs.

Guy - who was in the same storm the other night :-(
