Hi all,

I love my SV but can't get the idea of a nice, yellow 749 outta my head  They're sooo pretty

I've not had a test ride yet (although I will get around to it) but I was just wondering if anyone's had experience of one, or Ducatis in general? Are the reliability rumours true? Is is likely to be too extreme/uncomfortable round town?

Opinions please!

The husband and wife team that owned my SV before me also owned a 748 limited of some sort, and they reckoned "It's the sort of bike you should only buy if you own a car, and you can afford regular trips to the garage". 749 is more extreme, IIRC, but also more reliable. I've never ridden either, I'd be too afraid :)

I had a test ride on one, wicked machine but a bit too focused for every day use. If it was weekends and trackdays only, there'd be one in the garage right now.

Have a look at: http://www.urbanbiker.co.uk/reviews/749.htm

I liked the 748 but it was really uncomfortable unless you were really gassing it.
Dunno about the 749 but the frikkin' servicing/insurance/matching leathers costs are outrageous.

Damn it, where's the horror stories/cries of traitor or fashion victim???

Guess it's time to call the showroom and see if a test ride's possible

Before you consider buying a Ducati check out the servicing costs.
It will be a bit of an eye opener

I'm not normally a fan of full fairing bikes, but there's just something about the 749 Dark, and the black 999 featured in this month's 'Bike'... mmmm

A couple of weeks ago I went for a ride out with a guy I had recently met via business.he is originally from the North East. He has a lovely new 749 Dark. Ducatis always look very small to me even compared to many other makes where thou's look the size of 600's etc. But they are lovely if viewed in the right manner. That is- they are for serious minded riders only FULL STOP. Reliability questions I believe are a thing of the past and what you get is a real leading edge piece of machinery.

On a more positive note, my mate jumped on my SV to do a ride by so I could listen to my CCC end can properly. When he came back to me he mentioned how impresed he was with how it handled! And that from someone having just jumped off a Duke! :D

Buy the 749S. Ride it daily and you'll be fine :D
