View Full Version : Just walked for the first time!
Just got back in from Southmead where they had a see through socket to make sure that it fitted OK, and to see how my stump fits inside - perfect fit! A little bit of material needs to come off just for comfort, but apart from that, the job is a gud un.
Also, to make sure that the socket fitted correctly, I had to walk inside a railed walkway. The leg weighs an absolute ton, but I will soon get used to it. I musta walked for a good 5 minutes without stopping - it was fantastic, and wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
So in a couple of weeks I should be bombing around  Beeep Beeep
8) This is the design that will be on the front of the socket when it is complete 8)

Good to hear you're OK and the new leg fits well.
Just to bore you, last year I did my uni disertation helping on a project to improve the fit of prosthetic sockets. The project i was involved with was for trans-tibial (below the knee) and alot of the research took place at Southmead. :help:
So there is still alot of work going on into improving prosthetics, so you might get a lighter one soon.
Best of luck
Rich
An inspiration to everyone. Well done that man!

Great News, is that a Welsh Dragon or what?
Nah, just a plain old mean tribal dragon.
Mind you, the welsh flag would look a hell of a lot better with this baby on it

How perverse - most people go drinking and then lose their legs
We done on the walking bit and glad that you'll be sorted for all the festive fun. Take care.
Cheers mate.
Things have generally slowed down here (hence the lack of posts), and will probabl be situation normal for a few weeks.
The only news I have is that I can now extend my arm to 150 degrees, but the arm is still stuck at 90 degree bendiness. Physio is going OK, but just waiting for my leg to be delivered before anyone can make a leap forward in rehab terms
