Name and Shame: Mottingham Motorcycles aka A20 motorcycles.

I bought the bike off them 6months ago...
My idle screw fell out when i adjusted it the other day.

Calls them up, okie, bring it down we can look at it. Great.

Take it there this morning...I could tell by the way they greeted me
something was up...

Okie, bring it out the back we can look...show him where the idle screw
goes etc.
"Oooh thats a big job, were going to have to strip it all down. He
looks shaking his head."

Walks back inside the shop....Okie leave it with us we can do it...Me:
cool, so that will be under warentee then...guy yells to the manager
"Mark, can we do this under warentee?"
Mark (boss): No
Me: why, i bought the bike 6months ago off you.
Mark: So?
Me: its under warentee with you guys, its 6months old
Mark: No, your warentee is with Suzuki.
Me: Right ok, deep breath.
Mark: You havn't bought any accessories or your servicing* off us. It's a
two way street, its how I make money <pause> Do I look like I have c**t
tattooed onto my forehead.
Me: B****cks to this, storms off.

So um, yeh. Nice people
*Quoted 160quid for a 4k service.
Oh and they charged me £20 before to replace a fuse under the display, after it blew because it was a "consumable part"

 So you'll be going there again then, yes?

Is this the one at the bottom of Court Road? If so - I remember it when it was a toy shop, had an enormous window with a train set running round the edge, if you put 1d (yes it was that long ago!!) in the slot the train would start. Magic!!

oh dear.

a call to tradnig standards could wind them up a bit.

>>My idle screw fell out when i adjusted it the other day. <<

Why should this be fixed under warranty ?

Don't misunderstand me - I'm no supporter of bike dealers, but the warranty applies to faulty parts and/or workmanship.

Their customer service stinks tho'

i know at cmc if i'd have gone in with a similar problem they'd have fixed it no problem...

Isn't warrantee work for the dealer a good thing, don't they get to charge all the costs back to the manufacturer.

Sudoxe

Yeh. I did it as per the user manual, etc.

Glad you named and shamed them Dan, might be an idea to let them know that it's up on the web and god-knows-how-many SV riders now know not to go there.

Well, lets face it. A) they aint a suzuki dealer B) why on earth did you buy your bike from a non dealer C) What do you expect from a dealer in Mottingham D) he has a point E) You have modified your bike, so its not covered under warranty anyway F) Sorry for the truth, but it hurts.

Start using Premier in West Wickham.

Premier are no better. Baught the seat cowl, It didnt fit, they didnt want to know about it.

Gonna do everything myself from now on since the warentee is worth nothing, as has been demonstated.

Not true. They might like to tell you it is but it really isn't. What's a modification anyway? Different colour handgrips? Don't be put off with the dealer's shoddy service and attitude.

would just like to say that BATs in Biggin Hill have been great with me. I bought the sv and it broke down, got towed and faulty battery replaced.

Then it broke down 20 yards outside blackwall tunnel one morning  rescue guy came out, took one look and told me needed new rectifier. Towed to BATs, they found one and replaced it that day all on warranty with no quibble.

I know the guys there really well... they were good when I bought my gpz off them... but what is scary is the attitude of some places..

especially as I have no mechanical knowledge whatsoever so someone can talk to me and all I can do is look blankly at them... will know not to go to Mottingham... Premier Im surprised by cos I know them reasonably well and theyve been good to me in the past...

Dan, Premier are a good dealer. Not knowing the full story i cannot comment on your problem. However, the warranty is worth something, but it dont cover EVERY nut and bolt. Warranty work is Suzuki only. Anything esle is done at the dealers discression. You have been victim of a bad dealer. As for your seat cowl, none of them fit properly :?

Ok, i must have read the warranty wrong then. Its mainly down to the dealers discression, but at the end of the day a modified bike is a modified bike no matter what, and if the dealer sees fit, that its not a warranty item, then so be it.

Brilliantly put.
I can understand your position much better now.

If this is not a Suzuki dealer, is your bike a parallel import ?
If so, is the warranty a strange 3rd party deal ? (mine was!)

Good luck with getting the bike fixed soon

Since they're not a Suzuki dealer, there's not much you can do about that, but speak to the CAB/Trading Standards, because if the idle screw falls off and you've not done anything stupid to it, which you probably haven't, then it's 100% a warranty repair- it's either a faulty part or it's been installed wrongly.

But make sure you write to the dealer and tell them what you're doing, and quietly mention that you've also told everyone you'll listen about it on every interent forum you can find...

That is a good point again northwind... if you tell them everything you have done and are going to do... i think they will sort it out... or they may well call your bluff... inwhich case... more fool them!!

After I walked away from the devil's own dealer, Carrick Yamaha, I carried out a bit of a slur campaign against them... Posters on the back of their stall at the bike show, on the telegraph poles outside their shop, stuck to their windows :) And I know I put one of my customers off buying a used 748 off them as well, so I think I got them back in the end :)

Forgive me if I'm being naive, but I was under the impression that if you have a genuine UK Suzuki Warranty, then if there is a problem that can be fixed under warranty any Suzuki dealer should be able to do the work under warranty i.e. at no cost to you.

In this case, this leads me to two questions:

1. Is this a warranty problem? - Unfortunately unless the screw physically broke during maintenance I don't think it's covered.
2. Is your warranty a genuine UK one? - If so you could try your luck at a Suzuki Dealer.

Talk to Suzuki, then talk to Trading Standards. Import or not, you have a 12 month warranty on your bike. If it's an import SUZUKI still have to cover the warranty. This all came out when lots of people were importing cars from Europe.

It will take some grief and heartache, but Trading Standards will sort it, evetually.

After all this and you did report it to trading standards and they were ordered to fix the bike....would you really let them loose on it after all this. ;)

Trading Standards need to sort Suzuki out. it's their warranty. The dealer just sounds like an ******** and deserves to go out of business.

They should have left it as a toyshop, the bloke in there knew all about Hornby trains. The other shop next door was a cycle shop, the rot set in when they started selling Italian scoots

There is never an excuse for rudeness and poor customer service. Never. See how much prospective trade the guy's lost. Even I might have gone in there, my mum lives just down the road - I won't now.

I am afraid if he has bought the bike as an import then Suzuki GB wont have to honour any warranty. The warranty offered will be through the place you bought it from.

Warranty does not covered servicable items and if its been modded then i doubt the warranty would be honoured if the mods have caused the part to fail.

Also warranty work through suzuki is not good for any dealer as the warranty only pays half the labour!.

bought my new k4 650 off inta motorcycles in maidstone, originally went to lagunas and I was treated like a **** just because last time I was in there I was on a rs125 but now i'mstanding there with £4500 and they wasnt helpful and just didnt give a monkeys and though I was wasting there time, so went to inta motorcycles and they arranged to get one from livepool for me and put some free r + g crash mushrooms on it. there not even a suzuki dealer!!!!!!

When it came to servicing they took the bike to a suzuki dealer and got the book stamped then bought it back in there van.

what really ****ed me off was that in lagunas they asked me how old I was because insurance was going to be expensive for a 19 year old.

needless to say if you come into hein gericke in maidstone you will not hear a good word from anyone about lagunas..

Maybe we should organise a Soho Massive trip to this so called dealer and see what happens when he has 15 or so bikers asking him why he's not supporting the warranty.

I reckon that people power may be the way forward on this one. If he still has an attitude problem, then we can stand outside the shop telling potential customers what crap service they provide.

... or you could buy a Triumph. I now have a lovely dealer.

I searched high and low for a decent dealer when I had the SV and drew a GREAT BIG BLANK.

Or even better still buy a Honda from Chiswick Honda. Just had my 12K service and as always they have done me proud . :D Courtesy bike as always , (this time a CBF600) they do what they say and usually a bit more , free coffee whilst I'm waiting, loads of good advice and just general top notch customer care, ie nothing is to much trouble . Best dealer Ive ever dealt with.
