Hi there one & all!

Just a preliminary request for a bit of assistance with the stripping down of my basket-case bike!

I have been reliably informed by my Solicitor that the wreck will remain mine after the insurance payout.

I will be having it brought back to my house & will keep it in the garage and intend to sell any parts from it that are still useful!

I am still in plaster and ache a fair bit and the bike still hasn't even been inspested and a value & salvage value attached to it yet so it will probably be a good few weeks or so before I'll be wanting to do this, but I was wondering if some of you lovely people (preferably one or two who are handy with spanners, etc.) would be willing/would like to come & strip my bike!!??

I have a lot of mugs and a quick-boiling kettle & can provide biscuits & sandwiches, etc. As well as the bike being in a heated garage, so it should be a bit of a laugh for anyone wiling to give up a bit of time!?

Bloody 'eck! Thanks mate, but I very much doubt I'll have the bike back here by then, or even a valuation from the insurers (let alone one that I'll accept!!) Watch this space & I'll update it when I get it back & things sorted!

The weather shouldn't be too much of an issue as the garage has a couple of electric radiators in it (it's not the bigest of garages however! )

:? :? Hmmm - true!!

I would imagine that there won't be as many people actually turn up, as people are likely to have a prooblem with dates, etc. when it comes to it!
My house isn't tiny but it's not huge either!!

I think that when a date becomes clearer, I'll post again here, see what the responses are like.

I don't mind how many pepole turn up and as far as I'm concerned it's 'the more the merrier' but thinking of prcticalities, I may even have to limit numbers then!! :?

Thanks to everyone who has voiced an interest so far - it never ceases to amaze me, the cameraderie & friendship on this site! :D :grouphug:

I've got one of those large disc angle grinders if conventional spannering is taking too long. :P

Hopefully we can undo all the bolts in the conventional manner!

I have a standard (small disc) angle grinder any way but hopefully we won't have to get it out!!!!

I wasn't talking grinding bolts off - just cut the bike up into manageable chunks.

Have fun - I enjoy taking things to pieces; the challenge is getting it all together again in the right order.

Aah - I see!! Not such a bad idea... we could then split people into groups & give everyone a bit of the bike to strip down... Or maybe that's not the best idea!!

Yup- so do I... At least this time I won't have to be the one putting it all back together again!!

What you need is a couple of breaker bars, some sockets and an experienced guy to actually instruct the mob how it should be dismantled and what can actually be sold. A big rubber mallet & chizzle also helps to undo the engine mounts. Rictus & Darryl were of great help and insight when we dismantled RobS' SV after his crash. If you never seen how a bike actually hangs together and would like to get some insight on how it all works this is a great opportunity. You don't need any particular mechanical expertise, you will learn what you need on the day.

So they are! I'd nearly forgotten all about that!!
Yeah, I imagine you can have dibs on them! If the swingarm is intact though, I might try to sell that so would probably need them for that...

We'll see what comes out in the wash, so to speak!!

Looks like this could turn into an auction.............and that's just to buy the entrance tickets you are gonna have to sell to control this mob :)

lol - I can't imagine that everyone who expresses an interest now will be able to actually make it!

I can't believe the number of PMs I've received since I had the off!!
I have come to the conclusion that SV riders are somewhat like Vultures who will circle overhead and scrabble over pieces of a pertly-killed SV!!!

Honestly though, I don't mind it & I'm sure I'd do exactly the same thing!!
It's also quite reassuring to know that I have already got a lot of interest in parts from my bike!!

I should bloody well hope you'll be there!! What with you living only 2 minutes ride down the road and you probably wanting to rip my bike to shreds as well, after it having scared the crap outta you when you came across it in the middle of the road!!!

I had six of them Soho massive fellas come and strip my bike down and put all the bits in neatly labeled bags on a shelf in my shed. (good job they labelled the bits as I didn't know what half of them were)They made a photographic record as they went along which made it all really easy for when I started selling bits on ebay and giving bits away etc.

You should demand the same level of service. It cost me a lot of tea and Bacon sarnies but thats about it.

Good luck and PM me if you still need a pickup on Friday and we can sort it out.

If this drags out till late January I will be in Basildon a few weeks and would be willing to help. Depending on the travel distance to where you are. Where is East Sussex and how far from Basildon?

That is if no one minds a Yank showing up.

Blimey!!

That would be kinda cool!!

Basildon is in Essex, which is just over an hour away by road (most days!) - I'm sure someone from the Essex Boys section can tell you better how far away it is! (You think I might know, seeing as my Boss lives just down the road from there in Witham and I go between here & there a lot!  )

I would imagine this might well 'drag' into January because of Insurance companies being godawfully slow & then Christmas getting in the way!!!

OK...

The time has come!!

I have been given the all clear to start stripping her down!!

I've made a start already, as I was really hacked off at being informed what the insurance company have offered me for my wrecked riding kit!

But I have only started removing little bits & what's left of the fairing! The biggest thing I have removed so far is the (rather battered!) fuel tank! It even had about 13 litres of fuel left in it! :) :)

So - I know what I'll be doing this weekend and the 2 weekends after next!!

If anyone is still able to help or interested in watching a knackered SV being stripped to shreds, then speak now!!

All help will be very gratefully received and there will be plenty of Tea/Coffee/Biscuits, etc. for those who help... I can even fire up the projector for any races that are on!
