Sometimes I love my Sv too much.....

But one thing really bugs me at the mo.
It's these EX-SV owners telling me about limits and things I already know. I mean OK you've "moved on" to your race reps and big bore IL4s but why bore the crap out of us with the constant besmirching of our beloveds. They're like blokes who left a fantastic relationship for a better looking bird but still hanker after their old flame. We all know you just miss your throbbin' baby twin and regret getting sucked into some high interest finance deal so that you can hold your head up at the local bike meet. "Look I've got a GSXR/R6/CBR/ZX/RSVR I'm not weird or different I'm just like you honest....." Pathetic really

It kind of sounds like you're insecure about riding a 'smaller' bike... why should you give a rats-ass what anyone else thinks about your bike? Even on my Vespa I have a great time.

Ps. I couldn't care less about what other guys think about my bike, it's not guys I care about impressing... and do you think girls care what bike you ride?!?!?

Gotta be done.

I have to say, I like both shapes.
If I was to buy a naked SV, which I am interested in doing after I graduate, I would buy a curvy one.
I already own a pointy S, cos I don't like the look of the curvy S, the frame is nice but I just don't like the fairing.

There is room for all of us, so long as everybody accepts that black is best.

For Gods sake man, the SV does a job, and does it brilliantly. I loved my 13 month affair with my SV, but I've moved on to something else. My GSXR is not a better bike, it's just better at delivering what I want right now.

OK Two possibilities here:

1) This is a wind up.
2) This is a genuine whinge.

If 1) Then I'm just plain dissapointed, it's entirely transparent and you only 'hooked' one, must try harder, not good enough, you don't win a wooden spoon prize.
If 2) Then I'm just plain dissapointed, give over whining, you like your bike? Good, quite right too, SV are damn fine motorbicycles, (if I didn't think that I wouldn't have bought one), enjoy and ignore any owners of 'superior machines'.

The only K5 that looks good is the black sv1000s, the rest of them just look cheap..

Just a small detail, only I'd like to point out that that is WRONG, the briefest look will tell you that the only good one is the SV1000 in black.

Please stop using your bike immediately, phone the optician NOW, you need immediate treatment.

In all seriousness though, its amazing how many people trade SV for supersports 600s without even trying them thinking that they must be twice as fast and handle so much better, where in actual fact, unless you intend to be a serious trackday junkie, for most of the time, the SV IS the better road bike (certainly in the overcrowded South East!) taking into account all factors. Price, Insurance, Performance etc. Although, at least you can get to wear a dayglow babygrow suit when riding your supersports!

oh back on this one again... oh... I'll bite then...

people want different things from different bikes... its personal and we go through phases where we want to try something different... top end or torque, sports riding position or cruiser... be pretty boring if we were all on cbrs or svs forever more wouldnt it?

you only appreciate things by comparing to other things... ie I realised just how MUCH torque the sv has when riding a gs500 other day...

as the celebrity guy said in MCN last week... he didnt give a stuff whether they thought him a proper biker or a ponce it was between him and his bike... top attitude that...

if you worry about what youre on go to the NABD site... these guys would love to be on bikes but have to have them modified.. theyre grateful to ride again after amputations etc... do you think they worry if its an sv or a supersport?

NO! because IT DOESNT MATTER....ITS ABOUT RIDING YOUR RIDE NOT ANYONE ELSES....

Err...no, not fact, not even right for that matter, as I don't own one any more, (previously had a Mustard Yellow SVSX), perhaps I have some objectivity that is denied those standing a little closer.

Both bikes have their own character looks-wise but that's personal of course, I like both, but if I were to want another 650 I'd simply buy the best one I could find inside the money I had to spend, regardless of which exact model that would be as there really is so little difference in the riding experience of them both.

Sid,
Yes, I agree it is a matter of taste .......... and those with the original models have it in abundance. Whilst the newer model may be just as much fun to ride, the simple fact is............ the Suzuki designers messed up! I honestly could not bring myself to buy the newer model just because of its looks. I feel that the mark one will always look good but the mark two will just look very dated when the Japanese manufacturers forget this current fad for making pointy lego like bikes! IMHO.

Well that should set the cat amongst the pigeons!

its not what you ride but how you ride it.

The only person I really go out on ride outs with owns a 636 2004 model and hes pretty fast but I dont really have trouble keeping up, just ride within my limits and relax, the more relaxed I get the faster I seem to get as when Im nervous or dont know the roads I can get a bit erratic.

Its also taught me to use more of the rev range and try to get the most out of the bike.

Does anyone else find that if you wear ear plugs you seem to ride smoother and faster? just something I found out while out riding in the summer?

Anyone else find a difference in riding with/without earpluge other than abviousely it being quieter??

I have to admit, I am a little more prone to taking liberties with my speed with earplugs in.
These days I almost always wear them, since most of my miles are done on the motorway, I don't think my hearing would last long otherwise.

I find that I feel really "detached" from the feel of the bike and my surroundings, which is quite frightening, so after four or five attempts, I don't wear earplugs anymore. Not sure my hearing can get much worse, 23 years in the Army repairing tank engines did most of the damage

I can't stand riding without earplugs(does not matter what speed). It does my head in if I'm not wearing any. I know it's all in the head  buit the bike feels smoother, sounds better and even seems to handle better( Go work that one out) which translates into a better/more enjoyable ride for me.

I have been told that after riding for more than 20 minutes without earplugs your hearing can be damaged on a permanent basis. How true this is I don't know.

Personally I tend to ride with them in all the time,, if only to protect me from the sound of my screaming IL4 at 10k and over.... The Falco was too loud to ride without ear plugs.

I would advise everybody to try and get used to wearing them, it's much better for you in the long run..

Ridden for 4 1/2 years without ear plugs and I've gotta say that I haven't noticed that my hearing is any owrse than it was before...

With loud music, workshop noise when working on my Spitfire etc etc I don't think it's that bad.

An annoying noise yes - but I can still hear most of the traffic above the wind noise and that's something I do not want to lose...

Wish that I'd never got rid of my Grifter, I miss those chunky tyres and how you could fold the mud flap under itself so It rubbed against the tyre and made a motorbike noise, or the way that you could twist grip through the gears.

I miss 1979
