I just got a 2003 sv650s. It is nice except i think the previous owner tried to mess with the clutch cable adjustment. How can i adjust this properly? The manual is not very descriptive.

Problem is, i cannot get it into neutral when the bike is in 1st or 2nd while the bike is running. Once the bike is not running i can shift onto neutral. When its running and i wanna go from 1st to 2nd, no matter how hard i tug at the lever it wont come up!!!

I feel like i should know how to adjust this as im pretty hand son with my car. I dont wanna pay a mechanic to adjust my cable.....

Thanks guys.

These will be useful to you.

Look in "Periodic Maintenance" page 2-19
Pretty straightforward explanation there.

If it's just a case of not being able to pull the lever in enough there is an adjuster on the lever itself, just pull back the rubber cover where the cable exits the lever.

If its the actual bite point then you'll need to remove the plastic triangle cover by the side stand, all the workings are under their.

Follow the instructions from the owners handbook, quite a simple job.

Do you have to loosen it at the engine as well? Can you just adjust it at the clutch lever or will both ends need to be loosened?
