View Full Version : I want both of them on!
Not sure if the faired SV does this also but have a problem with my new bike. When youre riding with dipped beam on only one lights on. For both to come on you need full beam. Dont know which genius thought of this but im guessing this is why people keep trying to kill me :? cos they cant see me or mistake me for a pushbike!
So does anyone know of a way to get both lights on? Must be an electrician here somewhere :help:

On the Fazer you had to acquire a relay, take a feed from the lighting circuit to the relay, a power supply to the relay and a power line from the relay to the dip terminals on the other bulb. It's a while since I did it but it sounds right! I'm sure that it will work for the ZX6R. Oh and don't forget a fuse, just in case! :?
My J1 has them both on...I too don't really like the single light.

It's something to do with the way the lights are set up to get round (sorry conform) to an EU mandate, most of the new Hondas are like it too.
If you have a dig around on the web there should be a fix, which will include some new bulbs and possibly a replacement relay.

Have to agree with ZX6Man.... my JI also has both lights on with dipped beam. May sound daft but have you checked the bulb ? And yes there is no decent Ninja site.... which is why I love this one... at least bikes are loved here... :D
theres always www.mcnninjas.co.uk
the new laws make it for one to be on all the time....nasty

When I bought my new bandit 6 I was disappointed to find that this was the same. One light was for normal beam the other for high beam only. I searched high and low for a "fix" for it. Basically there wasn't one. It seems that most manufacturers now have the continental headlight theme which is as described. For UK they had to change the wiring which obviously cost them money. Therefore they decided that they would build their machines as per continental standard and we in the UK would have to lump it. This has also been well documented in RIDE magazine. I have to say that in the magazine at that particular time they were only talking about Suzuki's, but I'm sure it would not be long before other manufacturers would follow suit.
The simple solution is to jumper the bulb wiring across to the other headlight and vice versa, however this does not sort out the legality as the main beam headlight is built for that purpose only. If you did the jumpering "trick" then you would always have one light beaming too high and pointing in the wrong direction.
Hope this helps solve some of the confusion that seems to be occurring
well my cbr6 i have only one light on- simple solution is to lower the other bulb the same as the one thats on and ride with full beam on - but then you havent got a real full beam.
trouble with having 2 lights on (as my lights are round) is that at night - car drivers mistake you for a car in the distance and think your miles away - (apparently) and pull out.
Hey thanks everybody! Just to clarify its an '04 model so only one light comes on with dipped beam. But had a word with my friendly neighbourhood bike mechanic :) and he says its easy enough to sort out, just a case of putting in a relay like some of you said. Hopefully problem solved!
Thanks again

How new is this law Jelster cos Suzuki must be ignoring the EU =D> as my K4 has both lights on when dipped. In fact that was another factor in going for a new model, as I had noticed older bikes only used one light for dip.
I think the law is for at least 1 light to be on all the time......

and I think it's just convention on the continent to have only 1 for dipped, so they just combined the two things
