View Full Version : Thats all folks....
Just found out that they are writeing off my SV650Sk4. May she rest in pieces.
They have offered me £3,400 which is stupid. So im going to push for a lot more + the bike. Since it wasnt my fault and I wont get a similar bike for that.
Its a CAT D write off. Anyone know the process for re-roading it, options to part out etc?
Im annoyed at carole nash. They sent me a letter weeks ago, saying as I only have TPTF insurance, they wont deal with it, there legal people will. Spoke to the solicitor today, they didnt know anything. Fine, okie christmas post, etc...
So I get in tonight and theres a leter from carole nash "hire". Pretty much asking if they can have the hire bike back because mine has been written off. Nice of them to tell me.

CAt D is really easy to get back on the road, fix it and off you go.
Cat D just means that it would be more expensive for them to fix it than buy new. It doesn't mean that it's not fit for the road. I'm sure you could put it back on the road for far less than the insurance company and still have money left in your pocket

i was offered 3.4k for my 36 hour old sv also. after a mear 2 months they finally paid out the full amount. how did they decide? after writing about 4 times, speaking to them and doing everything they asked, they finaly asked for the phone number of the dealer and asked them what i paid for it.
they r absolute sh&ts! id probably go as far to say they r the scum of the earth....
anyway, they will ask for proff of what u paid for it probably so try to find a receipt. how old was the bike? make sure u tell them ull have to buy a new one as second hand ones wont be new enough to replace the condiction urs was in.
insurance company's seem about as interested in helping their existing customers as i am in stamp collecting. bear with it and just ask to speak to ehir manager each time u hit a wall.
good luck and enjoy!
You can knock £500+ off the value of a bike as soon as you leave the shop. That's the way it is.
CAT D, will i have to re register with a Q plate?
Dan
No it will all ready be registered now as a crash damaged bike. You are, by law, required to mention when selling the bike that it has been involved in a CAT D accident
Dan, buy mine and pocket the change :D

Lets see what they want to do about mine first eh :)
Dan
That's a ****ter Sudoxe. I didn't even know you had a prang! Hopefully, you are OK mate. Hope it all works out.
Sorry to hear this Dan. Hope you find an acceptable solution.

 Bugger :!:
Best of luck sorting it all out fella
CAT D will show up on an HPI check... which is the most basic vehicle history check you can do.
Because of this, you can forget about selling it - there'll always be another bike for someone to buy, that hasn't been written off.
Dan... just get a new one... with K4's at £4200, and the bike being less than 12 months old, it shouldn't be a problem to push them that far!
The offer of 3.4k includes keeping the bike. So i may accept this :)
Dan
Why?
Why not? I keep the bike which wont cost much to get back on the road. And get 3.4k in the bank. It wont cost me more than 300quid to get back road worthy.
Dan
Well I've not seen the damage for myself.. but you're making an assumption that the bike will be as good.
Let's imagine you needed a new swingarm... and subframe, fairings, rim, tyre, exhaust... that's £1000... then there's labour!
Or... take the money, take the bike, strip the bike, sell spares... £1000 thanks... new SK4 in yellow, full lowers and cowl.... and crash bungs ;)

Or just sell it to me...

Now your getting it :)
Im going to check it out properly see how much hassel it will be to get back on the road. ON THE ROAD, as opposed to new this new that, good as new.
I have a few bits and bobs, here and there. So worst case senario i sell it on.
Best case i have a commuting motorcycle, that is 6months old and cost less than 1k overall, with 7k on the clock and cost 20quid for a new plate to repair.

Be sure to get an insurance quote before you put it back on the road. I've had a few companies in the past that wouldn't touch a previously written off bike. There are loads that will but I don't know if you will get any kind of loading.

This is a good point. Also you have to consider its insurance value. The bike is no longer worth what it was. So you want to insure it for what it is really worth. This could bring your premium down again.
My bike is insured for £1000 and it's only just had its 1st birthday. In reality I could still insure it for a lot more than that, as my insurance company have no idea that it was involved in an accident, but then my insurance is £10 per month third party fire and theft.

I would just complain and winge for a little. I did when I had my SV torched and after phoning up and hassling them I got an extra £350. Not a huge amount but show me someone who would turn that down with a smile on their face!
They would let me keep the wreck which was a shame as only one side was damaged and the engine only had a melted cover on the right and the rad hoses etc. Back right was toast though

I was offered £3,900 for my written off K3. I accepted that without arguing, having seen what some people here have been offered. Cheque is apparently 'in the post' and will be donated to my new Speed Triple fund.

Sounds alright to me to get the offer and get to keep your bike. Ive not heard that before. Id be tempted myself to get the bike back and fix it up.
well if you get the money and keep the bike, why not have it as a track bike? wont cost that much to get it to track spec and when you do a track day you wont bin your new bike.....
just my thought on what Id do.....
