Might be OK so long as it hasn't been down the road.

I wouldn't though. Better off with a new "Stowaway" or "Ricochet" :thumbsup"

See I reckon it'd be alright. It's advertised as being in very good condition and there's really nothing that can go wrong with it (unlike a helmet) apart from a strap being duff.

Either way it's one of the most important safety aids you can buy IMHO and I had already bought mine before the SV!

I have a Knox back protector bought from ebay... but it was new. Try one on at your local daelership, but I think if you're over 5'10 you need the large version.

They take a while to get used to, but do offer so much more protection.

£25........... Cheaper than a new spine!

As with most kit, the best is the one your wearing, back protectors can be a little uncomfortable to wear at time so some people just use them for trackdays and weekend blats.

I have two but find the Knox stowaway to fit well and be the most user freindly on a daily basis, and lets be real here, it's not doing you any good at home , so my advice would be to ignore the product polls and get one that is easy the wear and wear it all the time, that's the best one.

Cheers Mark.

Good points made there. It is best to try them on first, especially if your leather fit well now! I have a Knox Ricochet and it fits well. I only used it on track at first but then thought about all the kerbs and lamposts and thought I'd probably better off using it on the road too. You forget its on after a while and if you are like me and could lose 3 or 4 inches from belly, the wide front strap holds it on for you!

They are only 60 quid brand new. I'm sure you canfind one on the internet from an authorised reseller for less.

Obviously wearing one is better than not but is it worth the risk to save 25 - 30 quid?

This is a thread that is close to my heart!

On the evening of my 'big one,' I got on my bike, patted myself down and realised I didn't have my back protector on. I always wear it as I have taken out the pathetic excuses for back protectors that came in my winter jacket that I was wearing, as well as the one that came in my Swift 1-piece leathers!).
Having realised this, I got off the bike again and went inside to put it on!

Very lucky really, as 15 minutes later I was laying in the road on my back, unconscious & struggling to breathe.
I had his a car head on at 50mph-ish, after the driver had turned across my path, been thrown up & over the car and came to land about 25 feet from the car!

It would appear that I landed on my back.

If I hadn't gone back inside and put it on, I really don't think I would be here, especially as I was wearing a rucksack at the time, which for some unknown reason, I had put my 1.5m security chain in!
If I was here, I wouldn't be in the same (good) state I am in now.

I 'only' had a Clover jobbie, which I bought for £70 as I recall (I hope the price has fallen since I bought it!! :? ) and although, in relation to the other models on test, it gets a poor review from RiDe, I think it did very well! I had no injuries to the back or neck and just a small amount of bruising to the side of my body, where the protector doesn't cover any way! Not a single injury to my back and not even so much as any pack pain.

It's worth getting one and I should probably add that I don't think I will be wearing my back protector again... It looks intact but it has impact absorbing foam pieces in it which, after such a big impact, I would rather get a new one, just to be sure... However, I would feel more comfortable wearing that than nothing at all.
