I didn't know of any biking road websites until you pointed out this one, but it looks very good.
Useful if visting an area you don't know.

thats quite a good idea, not seen them before.

i dont get the maps though, where is the route? all i see is a map of roads, but none marked out or high lighted.

I've registered and all I get is a picture of some nice roads, and an unavailable header image.

Kev,

I find that a lot of those sorts of images don't download on my work PC :-$

I'll try it at home over the weekend and report back.

I think the site is kind of in the early stages, so you may have problems if you're not using Internet Explorer as your browser.

I know what you mean also about the maps, but compared to what else is out there, it still seems to be pretty good, I like the way maps are put together, anyone tried actually entering any routes? I entered a few of my favourites and it was a little complex, but once I took the time it seemed to give a fairly good result.

Hope the link was useful!

OK, I know most of the readers are in Europe, but if you're planning a trip to California, here's a site you'll want to check out:

http://www.pashnit.com/motoroads.htm

Scroll down to the bottom for the links to all the roads.

By the way, the Pashnit site does include links to European sites included some for England.

Excellent, heading over your way late May / early June.
Are any of these suitable for a Harley? Hiring one for a run from San Francisco to LA down the coast (only time I'll ever use one) :D .
Any advice on where to go, what to look out for? :?:

How much time will you have? Here's a page from the Pashnit web site that shows one route you can take from SF to LA.

http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/CoastalMtnRide.htm

You'll need to take a bit of freeway from SF until you get to highway 35, then the fun starts. I've not done Hwy 25 but I've heard it's a "must ride" for sportbike riders. On a Harley, I'm not so sure. You may want to stick to the coastal highway 1 after Santa Cruz. It's more scenic with ocean views and fewer cow pastures and orchards. It'll have more traffic, though. I haven't been further south than Big Sur on the coast so I can't really comment beyond that. You might have more fun on a Buell if you can rent one of those instead of a Harley... especially if you're used to an SV.

Nice site, but not sure it helps me much being in the UK/Europe :-)

Still, it looks like someone has spent a long time researching that area, with some nice results.

Couldn't find any links to GB sites there, could you be a bit more specific about where to find the links?

Cheers,

David

Cheers Gomura, I had thought about trying to hire a sportsbike of some description but the gf will be on the back so a HD is a bit comfier for a few days.
Plus, to be honest, I quite fancy a go on one  & I could never bring myself to do it over here but on the 'Pacific coast highway' it seems a bit more appropriate. :)

Excellent link BTW, thanks! :D

There are a several links to European sites near the bottom of the page including two for the UK. You have to scroll down about 3/4 of the way.
Anyway, here's what looks to be the better of the two UK sites:

I'd be interested in knowing how good this site really is... :)

Yeah, I've also wondered what it would be like to ride a Harley . Cruisers are all the rage here in the states for some reason.

Cruisers are the business for big long roads with a fairly low speed limit and no bends... All you want for that is something that'll go all day and be comfy. Ideal- Harley make motorised leather armchairs :) As long as you don't get one with, what do they call 'em, cow-horn bars? Or you'll get arm strain.

www.alpineroads.com - for all that is fun in the mountains. Great site if you're planning a trip to Europe.
