is this worth going to? http://www.motorcyclenews.com/nav?page=motorcyclenews.articles.articleCategory.a rticle&resourceId=1343287&articleCategory=MCN-EXTRA_MCN-LONDON-MOTORCYCLE-SHOW

if i'm after some deals on parts, esp a new can :D . am i better off going at the beginning of the show when the traders will have more stock in, or at the end and try to pick up a last minute deal?

is anybody else planning to go? i'm likely to be with 2/3 others, non SV types but happy to meet up for a coffee/beer etc..

Will.

I'm almost certainly going.
A Hornet riding friend from Soton should be going, and with any luck a few others (maybe even SVers) should be going too.

With regards to cans. Most of the big companies, dont carry stock and prefer mail order. Its only people like the all in one sellers that have stock. As for pricing, in my experience, theres not much difference nowadys.

I sahll be there both weekends, helping out on a certain well know exhaust manufacturers stand :D

I want to go, since it's only about 15 mins from home. Not sure which day yet, but probably on a weekend. I went a few years ago and wasn't terribly impressed, but I'd like a look at the new Triumphs.

no money so won't be going as it'll only annoy me when I see something I want

It's fine for a look round but is nowhere near as big/good as the NEC. As for bargains, I think you'll be lucky to find very much.

Am I going? Yes. ;)

Mmmm, perhaps I should just order some leathers elsewhere then...

Dont you need a whole new set of gear? Jacket n trousers have to zip together all the way round.

That's my understanding as well. One piece or full zip together minimum!

Try Ron Haslam race school. The provide the bikes and the leathers.

All the way round? Why do some jackets etc. come with half zips then?!

Hmm, I'm hoping to fit my Hein Gericke zip (all the way round) to my AlpineStars jacket (existing goes 2/3 way round) for this. Will this do?

Flamin_Squirrel

Because not all bikers do track days, so why would you want something more restrictive.

BaggaZee

I was thinking that you wouldn't zip together at all other than for the track.
An assumption based on....
...erm...
...nothing whatsoever!

It's a d@mn expensive show too. At weekends it's £14 on the door. Even the £10 advance tickets are still a bit expensive for what it is. I might go on the first Sunday as there's a farmers market there too.

My Frank Thomas leathers have all the way round zips, plus a short 6" zip at the back. Not sure if that's for extra security or for if you don't want to zip all the way round.

I've got Belstaff trousers, which have a zip all the way round (and a half zip as well). I need to try them out with various jackets until I find one that works with the zip - and that fits over my back protector. I know Belstaff jackets will fit the trousers - just need to find the right size :D

Are there any standards for leathers for track days, like with Helmets :?: I'm assuming I'll be OK with a full zip

Ahh. I've got a Belstaf montana, which cost silly money, and much to my irritation it doesnt zip up all the way round :x

Got a set of Alpinestars jacket and trousers at the weekend from J&S in New Malden only £420  but the jacket had been reduced by well over £100. Even better my wife paid as she promised me soem form Christmas and Birthday combined plus she wants me to be safe (so I can go faster  ).

not that I'm aware of. 100% bikes require that you have either one piece or zip-together 2 piece and they check you over in the pit lane before letting you out on the track to make sure you're zipped up properly.

Getting back to the Bike Show, I went last year and got some cracking deals (all the bits from Renegade for a shade over £400, Dainese race jacket for £120, free bits from Skidmarx.....). Being very cheeky and fluttering my eyelashes worked very well!

Jordan, its always worth going. You can nevr tell with these things from one year to another. the 03 NEC is thought was pants compared to 04's.

Its worth the small trip to see for yourself init. The trick is, to know what you want, and a rough price you want to pay, then haggle :D Dont be swayed by the hundreds of leathers that you see, that may look good, but are crap.

It is (or was) called the "Sports & Superbike show" and as such there is more of a trend towards racing and tuning parts. Some of the smaller companies go and if you look around you can get yourself a good deal.

2 years ago Nick got a decent end can for £80.00

The Middlesex Massive will be in attendance.

I went 2 years ago as only live round the corned and thought it was good for kit. Like the others said, not really a patch on the NEC, but I wasnt really expecting it to be. I got a set of all right JTS leathers for 200 squid, still wearing them so all good (though a little tighter than they were when I bought them, but I dont think I can blame JTS for that!).

They only zip half way round but ive never been pulled up about it on any trackdays ive done.

I thought the display of bikes at Ally Pally was pretty poor though, not many manufacturers turned up, and even those that did didnt bring many bikes!

I would still go again this year, but my flippin holiday coincides with it so I cant make it. O well, you wont hear me complaining too much from the beach in Florida........

I am going tomorrw (Sunday 30th).
If you are around the Suzuki stand and see a plump/fattish bloke with short crop mousey hair and glasses with a girly with dark red hair and large breasts - that will be me!!! Come and say "are you into Penguins?"

ps: in my experience, the BMF at Peterborough is better for kit at rock bottom stupid prices but Ally Pally has great atmosphere!

Why not just buy the jacket you like and change the zip (either on the jacket, trousers or both)?

For trackdays you don't need matching set 2 pieces, just have to have the two halves attached by zip.

Well, it was the best looking bike in the show, so you obviously have taste, sir. Any idea how much it costs? I didn't dare ask.

I wouldn't think much of it, if I'd only seen this photo. The actually bike itself is absolutely beautiful.

It went like this

Me: How much for the cafe racer
Mitch: If you have to ask you cant afford it
Me: Well i can afford it, just want to know if i can afford 2?
Mitch: *laughs* good reply, £25k to you then
Me: Damn, one and a half then, oh, just throw in a Tornado instead

So then 25 grand, and only 25 being brought into the uk.
