View Full Version : Lucky I was on my bike this morning
So I'm riding to work for the first time this year when all the cars ahead decide to do an emergency stop... I have plenty of space and so stop in plenty of time - then move to between the white line and central reservation in case the car behind doesn't.
Low and behold a golf stops next to me, whilst behind him there are screams of brakes and tyres.
Thank god I was on my bike and could get out of the way. If I was in my volvo I would be looking at some serious damage now.
Thank god I decided to get out of the way as well :)

Been there. Didn't give it any thought other than what a **** the guys behind me were. When I got home I started thinking what could have happened. Nasty!
Glad you are OK though.
Luck does not come into it, more like fate. Glad your OK, theres good advice here too. I'll take it. - Never be last in a queue.

Never do what i did this morning either and get annoyed at some guy cutting me up, then power round him giving him the finger and realise the car in front has its brakes on........

Eh, funny, on friday I was thinking I was glad to be in the car after some half witted chav steped out in front of me. ABS saves the day :?
.............. some half witted chav...............
Since all chavs are, by definition, half-witted this one must be only quarter witted

Eh, if he were the last in the queue, there'd be nothing to hit him
Good thinking though! 8)
If you are last in the queue any new arrivals hit you from behind. Very good advice, I'd say.

... missed the opportunity to run over a Chav? How's that a good thing?!
Modern cars crumple to much when you hit anything - is it really worth the damage to your car?

Yeah, its too expensive to kill a chav like that. Plus all the effort to clean off all the blood/guts/brains off the car. Well alright, less of the brains...

Best to reverse into them then yeah?

Many years ago when we lived in Kent I got a call from my wife who was in tears. She had come down a long steep hill (Bluebell Hill Maidstone for those of you that know it) and had skidded when the car is front stopped. She managed to put the car on the large grass verge in the centre of the dual carriageway (not there now).
But what really upset her was the huge breakdown truck that was behind her went into the car in front at quite a speed. She would probably have been killed. The guy in front had to be cut out and broke both his legs.
Stu, moving out of the firing line was a bloody good move, well done mate.

Sometimes I wonder if bikers have a 6th sense -----or possibly a
higher sense of self preservation -----or even just better drivers than the average cage drivers who seem to be on another planet most of the time

Nah, we all do bloody stupid things as well. The difference is that we are forced to learn when we see our friends hurt, and occasionally get hurt ourselves.

Oh yes.
Also half the fun, to really be doing something that does require you to concentrate hard and learn alot.
I always thought I did lots of observation and thinking in the car...
Until I learnt to ride...
I think it's as much self preservation instints as anything - to be fair when I'm in the cage I always try to leave myself some manouvering room rather than get two inches from the car in front before stopping (but it wouldn't have helped in the outside lane yesterday...
Incidently I was nearly squashed on the way home. Filtering when this blind deaf woman (she must have been!) not only failed to see / hear me (indicator, main beam and 2nd gear to make some noise) but also failed to see the huge merc that was next to me as she tried to chaing lane without indicating. Interesting... I was not impressed - had I not have been there I don't think the merc would have been either :)
