View Full Version : Help! I can't get my visor back in!
Today I decided to go into my local Halfords and get something to stop the misting you get when sitting at traffic lights with the arai rx7. I find some Holts stuff and so I pay for it and go home to see if it works. I get the visor off no problem, give it a good clean and then put the stuff on. I then test it by breathing on it as hard as possible and find it really works, so I thought lets give it a proper test by going for a quick ride. 3 hours later I'm still fighting with my helmet trying to get the visor in place, but I just can't do it. I know what the manual says but it will not go back in.
So can anyone help me here and tell me or give me tips on how to get the visor back on to my helmet as without it I will not be able to ride.
It's easy. There are some semi circular cut outs in the visor which locate on some round lugs underneath the cowls at the side of the helmet. Reattach with the visor in the up position over these lugs. Then shut the visor gently. It will be stiff and click and crack but this is normal and is only the visor locating properly. Open and shut the visor a couple of times to make sure it is in properly.
It's difficult to explain in writing. Bring it round to my house and I will do it for you

If you till have troubles with it tomorrow, and you will be attending the Soho meet, don't try to force it if you're not sure, someone there, (me, in the unlikely event of no-one else), will show you how it's refitted, it's easy when you know how, but, as Scoobs rightly says, there are some worrying noises if you've not done it before.
Thanks for the help guys, but I still couldn't get it back in. I will probably run down to the dealer by the end of the day if I still can't do it, gives me an excuse to go for a ride.
Yes... Arais... not a user friendly lid, and highly overpriced in my opinion.
Go buy a Shoei and own a proper lid!

The RX7 Corsair is expensive, but fits my head perfectly. I tried on the Shoei XR1000 and it was too tight on my forehead and the X-Spirit was sold out so I had to go for the Arai, but I got a good deal on it so can't complain about the price really.

Is there much difference in the price between Shoei's and Arais for their top specs lids? I thought they were all around £350-450? I Picked up a Quantum F for £250 when they were replaced by the Astro - top lid, well comfy. Once you get the hang of the visor it really is a 5 second job and you can do it without popping off the side pods!
It seems easy to get a good deal on a Shoei... and the lower spec ones maintain quality... I've been very disappointed when playing with a £400+ Arai in the shop!

Shoeis were obviously designed for those with primative sloped foreheads
I'd have gone for a Shoei because they do have a far better visor release mechanism, but it really was too tight around the front. I'd never have spent £400 on an Arai, but I got an Astro-J for half that at the bike show 8)

I dunno, you've got no idea about lids and you can't count either, there's three.
:P Yerself. Actually, twice over :P
Just an update, I visited my dealer and ten seconds later the visor was back on. Now I can do it in 10 seconds too, no difficulties at all. The instruction manual is what makes it so confusing, all you have to do is pop it in and slide it down without bothering about the tiny little comma bit.

Ad the silica that came with the lid and you'll do it on 5!

Valman - slightly off topic but how's your last coupla weeks riding been? You had a few bad luck moments and were doubting your abilities last I read. Are you getting your confidence back and is your bike all repaired?

Riding in the last few weeks has been good, and the front brake grab action is all gone because I've had scary moments more or less every day and so far I've kept the bike shiny side up, I'm learning to anticipate stuff like a sixth sense. The rear brakes DO work well on my K4 and help me stop when I need to, I really can't understand why people seem to think they're rubbish.
The bike unfortunately is not repaired and probably won't be for a while. I've just found out from White Dalton the b!"£$%^ who was involved in my first off is not answering his phone and since the police were so kind as to not get him to write his address/insurance details when getting me his details it means it will take even longer than anticipated to sort out. The damage just seems to be cosmetic though and all on the right side so at least I've still got half a shiny new bike.
Thanks for asking and hopefully I'll see you tomorrow.

Glad to hear it. I'm afraid I won't be down tonight though I am hoping to come in before January is out. Got the outlaws coming down from Liverpool, so I need to cable tie on the wheeltrims and hide the family silver!
