Have been to the TT for the last 4 years in the trot - want a wee change of scenery.

What's a good range of camp sites in Northern France? How much for return ferry tickets in June time??

James my man ,have you considered Euro Tunnel. The train is usually cheaper quicker and less lightly to cause damage if the weather is bad

Ferry travel to France is quite cheap (very cheap when compared to Isle of Man Steam Racket at TT) Portsmouth to Caen with Brittany Ferries is around £75. Accomodation in France can be very cheap, chains such as Formula 1, Premier Classe & B&B Hotel are all between 18 and 33 Euros a night and are located at just about every town. Head over for MotoGP at Le Mans on 15th May if you fancy watching some racing!

If you want to do camping in France (I do every year!  ), just get the Michelin map book of France, 1:200,000 scale, covers all of France, costs around £11 from WHS or similar.

Campsites are marked with a little tent symbol, there's hundreds of them, and in the more touristy regions you'll find a lot more not on the maps.

Never a need to book, just pick an area the right distance away and head there. 8) The sites are well signposted, towns with campsites invariably signpost them as you enter the town. Municipal sites are usually decent and cheap.

If weather really gets dross, then the "routier" type motels are generally fine and cheap, e.g. last year in St Hilaire du Harcouet (lower Normandy) 2 people double room meals and a few beers = Eu60.

If you've not been, the country roads are fabulous and nearly empty, many of the "yellows" are really very nice roads. 8)

i did cannes and monaco last year for the grand prix ....both of these were really expensive options but travelled along the coast from cannes for 5 mins and came to a town called "la bocca" fantastic location all hotels with parking literally 30 seconds from cannes beach and there is a suzuki dealership next door to a hotel called "the cannes beach hotel" funnily enough.
oohhh! prices were 30euros per night for a self contained apartment
